Fascinating also to hear more about @drjenniferaston.bsky.social project on history of divorce - really interesting statistical findings as well as much human interest. Thanks to Jen for having this conference as hybrid enabling me to attend remotely this morning
Brilliant talk this morning by @chloechallender.bsky.social on her excellent research on divorce by Act of Parliament, its voyeurism and theatricality, and experience of women inc as petitioners, respondents, witnesses.
OMG so proud to have seen you in this! Enormous congrats 😍
Thanks to @mpsheritage.bsky.social I think I may have identified an original Sylvia Pankhurst artwork. Altho' for licensing agreement the pic below isn't the original - but to unravel the mystery read on...

Such a treat to see this rare collection of pre-1910 British women's suffrage posters up close at @theul.bsky.social this week. This is the top half of a gigantic poster using French revolutionary archetypes to accuse the Liberal prime minister H.H. Asquith of hypocrisy. J'accuse, indeed.
Fascinating to know anyway, thank you!
Yes yes yes! So exciting and so well deserved Mari. It's going to be absolutely beautiful and so important. Can't wait to read it!
Thank you to everyone who has posted a memory or thank you to The Women's Library at 100. Please do have a read, or come and use the collection, and add your messages to this webpage.

This is so good. The women's movement after 1918 is so, so underrated but there's a ton of legislation in the 1920s even before you start talking equality. Suffrage impact and expansion ftw!
And I'm so pleased to be starting my new job as Project Archivist at The Law Society at the same time - it is part-time, so I will be writing the book around it. Plenty to keep me busy over the next year!
Working from home set up with rubber suffragette duck on desk, New Dawn colourful print on wall behind and a suffrage teatowel hanging over a monitor
Exciting news! I've signed a contract to write my first solo book - on women, politics and the battle for equal franchise between 1918 and 1928. It will be published for the centenary of the Equal Franchise Act in 2028 by @yalebooks.bsky.social Suffraduck is on my desk waiting for me to start! 🗃️
The archives are the project!
Not quite lone! 😁
It's basically too late unless you're near Kew, but if you haven't seen Love Letters, you really should. It's very, very good. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/whats-on/exh...
This great job is a part-time role - 3 days a week (I have plans for the other days, which I'll be posting about soon).
I’m pleased to share that I started a new job today as Project Archivist at The Law Society! 🍾
I spotted their Accreditation plaque and gave an approving mental nod
Cup of tea and half eaten honey bun on table, quiet London street in background with tall brown buildings (Store St)
And a stop at the fab Paul Mellon Centre where I was researching yesterday, for their next exhib www.paul-mellon-centre.ac.uk/whats-on/for... - I went to Honey & Co too (and sat outside!)
Ooh that first pic is like my profile pic! (Which was taken donkeys years ago at the Getty in LA)
Enormous congrats!
'The Guardian' view on the Women's Library at 100: a cause of celebration but not complacency

😢
Blue plaque mounted on an information board outside a white terrace house, me standing alongside
Small bronze statue on a wooden table, showing a Victorian era woman (Sophia Goulden) in large skirt holding out a piece of paper, while a small girl (Emmeline Pankhurst) clings to her
I saw the blue plaque for Sophia Goulden, Emmeline Pankhurst’s mother, while on holiday in the Isle of Man last week! Also a maquette for a proposed statue, on display in the Tynwald. The Isle of Man gave women with property the vote in 1881 so Sophia would have been able to vote after that. 🗃️
@darthbluesky.bsky.social have you seen @thegoldenratio4.bsky.social have a new dog!
Thrilled to get the paperback of “Out of the Darkness: Greenham Voices 1981-2000” by my long time friend & collaborator Rebecca Mordan from @greenhamwomen.bsky.social at the celebration event for The Women’s Library at 100 @lselibrary.bsky.social 😃 Get yours: thehistorypress.co.uk/publication/...
Our Parliaments, Politics and People seminar is a very friendly place, as Sarah attests! We're already starting to put together our speakers for the 2026-7 programme - get in touch with us if that is of interest.
Thanks Ruth! I wonder if the fuss about this might mean it (eventually) gets more scrutiny than it might have done - I guess we’ll see!
I am definitely here for hearing more about the history of women in Parliament! Great to see @jhdavey.bsky.social showcasing the excellent work of @satisfactory20.bsky.social and Elizabeth Hallam Smith on this theme.
