St George and the dragon
Graphic showing that half of England is owned by 25,000 landowners - less than one per cent of its population.
Cover of my book Who Owns England? (2019)
Happy St George's Day.
A reminder that half of England is owned by less than 1% of the population. Some of these aristocratic landowners have inherited land since the Norman Conquest.
England needs land reform and a strong Community Right to Buy!

Great news that DEFRA might finally open up data on soils in England. It sounds niche but it's super-important for everything from restoring peat bogs to protecting most fertile agricultural land.
I first wrote to DEFRA about doing this in *2016*... 😮💨

Here’s to the next 75 years - with a birthday present of reform, new powers and proper resource!
Planning isn't a "chokehold" on growth. It's there to ensure sustainable growth.
Bats didn't hold up HS2. Politics & mismanagement did.
Sad to see the Prime Minister's caricature of regulators as blockers. It'd be utter short-termism to ditch planning rules for a quick economic hit.
I’ve emailed my MP.

The very first National Parks were created under the post-war Labour government - we need this government to reform them and resource them properly!
