To raise money we're joining in a yearly effort to complete at least 24 hours of video games over Friday 17th, Saturday 18th, and Sunday 19th October - streaming them at www.twitch.tv/cheesethieves

Every year a few of us get together to raise money for Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity, in a few days we'll be doing it again for 2025. Please check out our campaign page at justgiving.com/page/teamche... and donate if you can - it's an incredible charity that touches a lot of people's lives.

Nice, and that’s okay to go into blind? Looks like it might be hard to find / buy?

This joke led to me reading a bunch of wiki pages about the IDW plot lines, and I am now totally mind blown about how little I apparently know about the transformers (my childhood passion) now. I didn’t realise it was a “reboot” and now I need to learn more.

A screenshot of a Reddit post from r/mildlyinfuriating that says the following:

Roomba accidentally saw outside and now I can't delete "room 1" and "room 4"
The roomba automatically updates the map everytime it cleans. Normally I leave the door to the backyard closed. But today I forgot. As it was cleaning near the gate (vertical red line at the edge of room 10 & 11) it saw the backyard. The app has no way to delete a room. Very mildly infuriating indeed

The accompanying image is a floorplan of a house, with a bunch of rooms labelled as room 3, room 4, and so on. On the left-hand side of the floor plan are two new, irregularly-shaped rooms called Room 1 and Room 4, which are separated from the house by a red dotted line that represents the gate.

It is easy to imagine that these new rooms are Roomba's interpretations of The Outside as new places to explore and clean, as they follow Roomba's lines of sight in big diagonal stripes.

I love "Roomba discovers that their entire kingdom is but a fraction of the world" stories but I hope Roomba doesn't resent us too much when the robopocalypse comes

A screenshot of Google's AI Overview answer to the question "is haggis an animal". It says "Yes, the haggis is a small, furry mammal native to Scotland" and goes on to give the typical "asymmetrical legs" details.

The Scottish have won the AI Wars.

Monkey Island 2 remains one of the most beautiful games ever created.

Also reading the hobbit with a five year old at the moment, and I do find myself paraphrasing more than I expected. It’s wonderful though.

A promotional still of David Suchet as Agatha Christie's Poirot, with (I think) an anti-aircraft gun peeking over his shoulder.

My favourite episode is the one where Poirot gets a shoulder-mounted cannon.

looking back, AOL had it right. 30 hours of internet per month was the right amount.

I can assure you that while this thread seems unbelievable to you, it is something that every senior engineer has sat thru at least twice. Once when they were the incredulous junior who "doesn't understand why it needs to be so complex", and once as a senior eng explaining, why in fact, it does.

I was driving behind a car which had a sticker on the back with the Paul Walker “if one day the speed kills me” quote. I didn’t recognise it so invoked Siri and asked about it. Siri’s reply? “Calling emergency services in 3..2..” talk about speed - I don’t think I’ve ever hit a cancel button so fast
