Excited to be in Kobe for the Neural Control of Movement conference! 🇯🇵🧠 #NCMKobe26 @ncmsociety.bsky.social
I will be presenting Friday at 10:30 on how finger-extending exoskeletons are integrated into the human sensorimotor system.
Very grateful to be here as an NCM scholarship awardee!

How to assess the roles of vision and language to reading?
We studied how purely visual computational models for word and letter recognition processed visual Braille (⠉⠑⠗⠏⠑) and found that they don't replicate human behavioural / neural results, showing the need of language processing in reading
The geographic outline of Ukraine filled with a blue and yellow pixelated pattern resembling traditional Ukrainian embroidery. Below the map, blue text reads: "Light overcomes the darkness. #StandWithUkraine." The bottom right corner features the European Union flag. All elements are set against a light grey, textured background.
When words fall short, symbols speak.
The traditional Ukrainian Pysanky represent our shared hope that cannot be broken.
As we prepare for the upcoming high-level meeting for the return of Ukrainian children, we remain committed to #StandWithUkraine for as long as it takes.
Neuro colleagues - I will be attending #OHBM2026 @ohbmofficial.bsky.social this year, first time in person!
I signed up for the educational day hoping for a session on #fNIRS - but I see there are none! 🤨
How do the #fNIRS folks get together? Any chance to discuss methods and best practices?
If childhood adversity is harmful, are its cognitive consequences always and only negative?
Maybe we need to question deficit models.
Greater childhood adversity was linked to faster implicit learning in our new study.

If breathing has separable components, do they have separable brain bases? Evidence from qMRI suggests yes: insula & ACC for sensitivity, somatosensory cortex for affect, and midline & PAG for confidence.

Thank you, Micah, so glad it felt clear and useful! We really enjoyed engaging with your work!
If anyone does not have access to the paper, feel free to DM me!
Big thanks to my co-author @dennislarsson.bsky.social for a great collaboration 🧠 And to the authors of the original study: @ninitronic.bsky.social @leahbanellis.bsky.social @melinavejloe.bsky.social @francescafardo.bsky.social @micahgallen.com – really enjoyed working through your paper!
Breathing seems to break down into separable parts: sensing, interpreting, and feeling, each linked to different brain systems. In our Journal Club on Nikolova et al. (2025), we explore how this helps explain why the same breath can feel so different across people.

Awesome, thanks a lot Renzo!
I have an article that could not be published open access, but I would still like to make it accessible somehow. Does anyone know of legitimate workarounds? Are there any "grey zone" options that are commonly used or at least generally tolerated? Would really appreciate any advice or experiences!

Great time at the Donders Institute Open Day – De Brein Show! 🧠✨
We brought our Exoskeleton demo, where visitors experienced extending the body with extra long fingers.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by, and our team: Floris van Wettum, Eleni Manias, Thomas Kooiman, and Chris Vajdík 🦾
Check out our new study published in Nature Communication where we show that hMT+/V5—alongside a fronto-parietal network—encodes visual and tactile motion directions using a shared external frame of reference, independent of body posture.

Big congrats to @pevianiv.bsky.social for leading this amazing work! 🎉 And a special shoutout to our fantastic former master's student, Siebe Geurts, on publishing his second paper this year from his time in the lab 👏
New paper led by @pevianiv.bsky.social!
We show maps of a hand-held tool can be built with accuracy comparable to arm. Tool use did not change accuracy but affected precision. This suggests the sensorimotor system can extend body-like representations to tools.
