The nhl, and many other leagues, would be improved by adopting gold drafting, which makes the existing schedule more exciting for fans, eliminates tanking discourse, and gives the best draft picks to the weakest teams, who need them the most. This is the 2024-2025 thread.
Last night's game was awesome and I help it grows the game. The best moment, IMO, were the fans chanting "Johnny Hockey!" .. had chills watching it.
As always, JP's threads are 🔥. Love this one w/ Luke's microstat profile.

I didn't have high hopes for 4 Nations -- if you asked me a couple months ago, I frankly didn't care about it -- but damn was I wrong, that was tremendous fun. Congrats to Canada.
This is amazingly accurate lmao
Don’t post many personal things here but here is a throwback photo from a few years ago when the wife and I visited Grindewald, Switzerland. Such a beautiful place.
Jack's answer to the last question was hilarious.
"What's it going to be like playing against [Sidney Crosby] in a game like this?"
"I don't know, we played against him on Saturday, so should probably be the same." #njdevils #usahockey
2/20/25 goalie mask of the day, Roberto Luongo.
Brett Pesce is now the emergency backup d-man thingy but he's not even the best US d-man on his own team. 😬
Updated: Quinn Hughes. #usahockey
It truly is, and it always reminds me of the 2003 Devils, which makes me even happier LOL.
Don't believe it was reported yesterday, but Jacob Markstrom's IR placement is retroactive to Jan. 22nd. Therefore, he's eligible to return when he and the #NJDevils feel ready.
On the ice today is a good start ⤵️

A great piece from @collegehockeynews.com on Yegorov following this weekend: www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2025/02...

Caught up to BU's weekend series vs Providence. Easily Yegorov's worst start on Fri night allowing some weak GA and was pulled about halfway thru the game... but he responded with a 30 SV shutout the following night. He's up to a .944 SV%, including .906 on high-danger shots, thru 7 games. #njdevils

Imagine USA vs Canada 2.0 had this goalie matchup, tho.
The Finnish can't finish.
Btw, this is coming from someone who said this about the tournament 2 months ago lmao:

USA vs Canada 2.0, switching to US soil, and now with championship game stakes, is *excellent* for hockey.
Thursday is going to be fucking awesome, and regardless of who you cheer for, be happy and proud most of all for the game we all cherish.
And yes I understand GSAx is a counting stat and Lankinen has played 100+ less games in that sample... but I'm not going to hold that against Saros. There's a reason he consistently starts 60+ games/season while Lankinen doesn't sniff anything near that (excluding this year b/c of Demko injury).
I'm surprised Finland "gave up" on Saros so fast. He gave up 6 goals on Thurs but USA generated roughly 5 expected goals. Lankinen has been better this season, fair, but look at the last four seasons in aggregate and it's frankly not close.
