Tormented by visions of a giant flesh monster stuck in a basement giving birth to/adopting a human child. IDK what to call this. Slice of Eldritch Life? #fiction #EldritchHorror but a sweetiepie.

Writing advice from my dog, part 6:

There's no point in trying to impress your human and catch the squirrel at the same time, but only one of them will not be there in the morning. Similarly, when inspiration strikes, drop everything and write until it leaves.

Writing advice from my dog: Part 5.

"Said" is not actually a toxic word. But if you want to pick it out of your dialogue like pills out of a peanut-butter bacon sandwich, why shouldn't you?

Writing Advice from my dog: Sometimes, things don't work. You're off your game and the writing won't come. So give yourself a break. Chew a toy. Lie in the sun patch. You'll get the squirrel and finish the sticky chapter tomorrow.

While you're at it, take a nap.

For context, watching Father Brown and hit episode 2. I love this series, but I haven't watched season 1 before.

My least favorite trope of all time: Rich, sheltered teen in love with her male tutor. It's so predatory and so common in these stories. The only thing I hate worse is the parents are treated like the villains for not being supportive of the romance.

Writing advice from my dog: When you come to a decision point in your plot and you can't decide, do both! Why should you not create a time warp and break the laws of space and time, yanking arms out of sockets and dragging your leash behind you as you bounce between the ideas?

...up onto the decks of one of the nearby boats, gasping. The darkness became a shadowed figure and a contralto voice whispering.

"...So you are a merrow after all."

With that, it was gone.

...masterfully pulled through the water. It was like darkness had formed a fast-growing icicle and was reaching out for him. It took hold of the belt strapped across his coat and he was pulled up.

The chill of the water became freezing and painful as his head breached the waves. He was thrust...

...a stronger chill and his eyes unfocused as his lungs began to protest. Down seemed so much easier than up. He weakly paddled at the water around him, but it was too cold and he'd been in it too long.

There was a disturbance at the surface. Something plunged from above, a shadow shape that...

The chill of the depths pulled at him from all sides as the eerie green light faded from view. He sank ever deeper, farther from the roiling surface, and a strange peace fell over his mind. Far from the madding clash of steel and spells, he sank out of sight.

The water took on

"You think the answer to your pain is to make others feel it. But the answer to my pain has always been to protect others from it."

Thanks, random smoothie-making thought.

Have you ever just had a bowl of oatmeal? No butter, no sugar, just a bowl of oatmeal? Have you ever experienced the pure enjoyment of the smell of a hot bowl of oatmeal on a cold, wet day? After a long walk in winter, have you had a bowl of plain oatmeal?

More writing advice from my dog: When you feel mentally stuck and restless. Take a walk. Chew a stick. Chase a squirrel.

Then take a nap.

This whole problem goes back to my outlining vs writing dynamic, IE:

Outlining: Oh this will be perfect.

Writing: Oh, but this... This might be good too...

That PLOT is actually PLOT with all caps because Person C is essentially an antagonist who causes a lot of character development (ie PAIN) for Person A.

Person B is supposed to have a different plotline.

...But A and B have such great chemistry...

At a crossroads with my most recent WIP and it's throwing my process into chaos. Basically this below:

Person A and Person B have great chemistry together for a potential romance.

Problem.

Person C, who has not arrived yet, is Person A's planned romantic partner. And there is plot.

My brain: A summary

Novel WIP near the end of the first draft: Nah. Boring. Done. All ideas decided. I sleep.

8 year old WIP I started working on when I was literally 16, and have proceeded to work on, scrap, start over, and scrap 19000000000000000000000 times: COWABUNGA IT IS.

Is there a colored circles app for writing? I bet I would write so much if that existed.

“The human soul is a rose that bursts out of the body in a flow of Vitea at death. Not literally, of course not, but that is where the symbol comes from. The rose is a symbol of ascension, memory, understanding of the beyond, and surrender to the greater flow we cannot escape.”

Some days suck. Some days feel like I don't have it, that my writing/art isn't any good. Rest. Take the day. Go for a walk. Try writing/drawing for 5-10minutes even if we barely do anything. through a soul-crushing wave of imposter syndrome we will find an unrelenting push of "fuck it, we ball."

I didn't believe the colored circles could be so addictive until I got a fitness tracker that used them. Now I'm obsessed with closing my circles and I'm doing almost 15k steps a day to do it. Spicy brain being used for good, yes, yes.

Peter glanced down at Himmel with his blue eyes and gripped the blade of the kitchen knife. The man who’d been a monster only moments before gripped the knife and wrenched it free. Blood so dark it was purple flowed down his side. “Why do you think? How did a human stumble on her?"

“You really are just human.” A familiar voice spoke from near the door. “I didn’t believe it until now.”

Elizabeth collapsed into her parent’s arms before he could get a good look at her demonic form, but he knew what he’d seen in the dark moonlight. “Why are you here?”

I put like 37 words into one of my books last night, and that feels like an achievement because I've been stuck on this sentence for like two weeks.

Camilla Draymarch - Empress of Talking to the Walls

Herbs - Mint and Chives

Symbol - Probably some weird amalgamation of an octopus hugging a teddy bear.

Offerings - Fresh baked bread, new recipes, snuggly turtlenecks, and pens. But only the good kind.
