Science needs to study how no matter what direction I’m biking it is always into the wind.

Listening in to the live Artemis II feed. I love the way they talk about everything (jargon, acronyms, plaing English) . Like a bit ago, an astronaut was talking emotionally about how beautiful the views were of the approaching moon, and Houston's CapCom person responded plainly “Copy. Moon joy.”

The idea is like grass. It craves light, likes crowds, thrives on crossbreeding, grows better for being stepped on.

Tools are only rented, not owned, so ultimate control over their use isn’t up to the user. It holds more for missiles than it does for, like, a sledgehammer.

Or, restated: the “house” here is ideological, so a house of violence cannot be violently destroyed

@mammonmachine.bsky.social, @dimosar.bsky.social, and I have decided that Marathon should add a big entertainment/broadcasting corp like Netrunner's NBN, and they should give you contracts for doing Epic Streamer Clips and completing runs with brand-covered Sponsored Kits.

'We're playing game designs from 2005 still': Caves of Qud's co-creator wants to build new kinds of sicko gameplay systems that'll use all the processing potential being left untapped My body is ready, but my CPU might not be.

I just keep saying unhinged stuff in interviews I guess.

Great!

Honestly, LLMs have annihilated Obsidian communities for me. The subreddit is unreadable, the discord is a struggle. I know the plugin team must be overwhelmed. The spirit of the thing is slipping.

A blockquote from Kyle Paoletta's "Fair Warning" in Real Life magazine, citing a 1985 interview with The Tech, an MIT News service, in which Joseph Weizenbaum — the computer scientist who developed ELIZA, the first chatbot in 1964 — states: "the computer has from the beginning been a fundamentally conservative force … a force which kept power or even solidified power where it already existed." The passage concludes that in place of fundamental social changes, the computer allows technical solutions to be proposed that would allow existing power hierarchies to remain intact.

A new(ish) social media platform means getting to present various baubles from my past like some sort of resplendent and flirtatious bird. Here's a view of the Pacific from R/V Falkor's starboard porthole, taken on January 9th, 2017 during my time as the @schmidtocean.bsky.social Artist at Sea.

Low-Background Code We have irradiated our code and must now hoard salvage.

see also `jj new -A`, `jj new -B`, and using them together—time-traveling commits with transparent rebases.

for me, the git -> jj transition has felt as transformative as svn -> git

Hi Erikk,

I hope you're doing well!

I’m Alex with the Handshake AI team, and I wanted to personally reach out about a new philosophy-focused AI research project we’re launching. We immediately thought of you given your background in Philosophy.

We’re currently staffing a project focused on integrating a specific ethical framework into a widely used language model, and we’re seeking PhD-level moral philosophers to contribute.

We’re looking for moral philosophers with strong publication records in ethics.

If you're interested, please follow the steps below to secure your candidacy:

I’ve spent the past six months reading Aquinas with @catherineproject.bsky.social folks and it’s been lovely. Fun to have your default state of being be rumination of what some dude named Thomas was up to. Or, put differently:
