Interesting! So if this goal is one China will actually achieve: How much will absolut emissions decrease? (Low growth vs high growth scenario)

Sexual violence is widespread in #Sudan.

Survivors have shared their experiences with MSF: attacks in El Fasher, assaults while fleeing and families torn apart or killed.

These stories are difficult to read, but they help amplify their voices: www.doctorswithoutborders.ca/sudan-surviv...

Now we need to get New York City to expand Summer Streets to more than just a few weekends each year. In fact, rebrand it as "City Streets" or something like that and have it every weekend.

Orban's Hungary was a nexus of authoritarian interests in weakening European democracy.

He was a good friend of Trump, Putin and Xi!

Bannon referred to Orban as "Trump before Trump."

Well, Orban is gone. MAGA is next.

More and More and More It has become habitual to think of our relationship with energy as one of transition: with wood superseded by coal, coal by oil, oil by nuclear and then at some future point all replaced by green sour...

Not a fiction but some of the futurologist narratives seem to have been pure science fiction! 😅

Israel’s Latest Genocide Is Against the Shias of Lebanon. Why Is the World Silent? Lebanon’s Christians are being told by the Israeli military to get rid of any displaced Shias hiding in their homes or villages. Haven’t we seen this story before, and don’t we all know how it ends?

"Remember: When you dehumanize a group long enough, you make their pain and suffering easier to ignore and their displacement and destruction easier to justify."

Donald Trump has threatened that Iran’s 'whole civilisation will die tonight'. This is incredibly alarming.

These threats normalise mass civilian harm, and makes an already volatile situation even worse

Starmer must condemn Trump’s rhetoric and urgently review and remove US access to UK airbases.

#Lebanon: Around 2pm Sunday, Israeli forces struck a densely populated area in Beirut, meters from Rafik Hariri Public Hospital, where MSF supports an ER doctor.

A mass-casualty influx followed. In the first hour: 4 killed, ~40 injured. More feared as rubble is cleared.

Swedish PM offers deal that could see far-right allowed into government Party, which has neo-Nazi roots, will hold ‘important ministerial posts within immigration’ if four-party coalition wins in September

A genuinely horrible development

Map of the UK, showing the huge proportion of land used for beef, dairy and lamb production and the tiny proportion used for crops, next to a plot showing that 68% of UK calories and 52% of our protein come from the plants.

Maybe these need to be put on a few menus/supermarket walls. These are from the UK National Food Strategy, showing the proportion of UK land used for different things (huge for beef/lamb, tiny for crops), & where we get our calories and protein (68% & 52% from plants). The difference is staggering.

This flag symbolized the Chinese Eastern Railway (CER), a joint Sino-Russian venture established under the 1896 Li–Lobanov Treaty, which granted Russia a concession to build a railway through Manchuria. Adopted in 1897, it served as the official emblem for the Russian-managed company, displaying its authority at railway stations and facilities like those in Harbin.

A thread 🧵 on Polish palaeontologists in Harbin

There used to be (~30k strong) Polish population in the city of Harbin (哈尔滨), during Russian occupation of North China & partition of Poland. The population was composed of Socialist Poles who were banished as punishment for anti-Tsarist uprisings.

Another example of how building out renewables doesn't necessarily mean that fossil fuels diminish.

Fressoz even decribed the symbiosis of coal and renewables in western China.

No surprise as renewables have had a hard time keeping up with growing demand. The scale of the build out of coal plants last year is mindblowing. More than the rest of the world combined and even more...
