The Spanish government proactively implemented a 10% VAT reduction on fuel and called for windfall taxes on energy firms to cushion impact for consumers. Spain’s heavy investment in renewable energy & strategic autonomy reduced relative economic shock compared to more fossil-fuel-dependent neighbors
In my @irishtimes.com op-ed today I argue that our climate law is the best framework we have for making energy secure and affordable, because it tackles the root cause of our vulnerability to energy shocks - our dependence on fossil fuels.

🇮🇪 Ireland knows what it means to leave. But belonging means being safe, too.
As racism rises, communities rise louder — marching, organising, refusing hate.
INAR logs every racist incident to protect and amplify.
📢 Report. Resist. Reclaim safety.

@rte.ie literally never stop with the promotion of car culture and this is just one of the many strands of our larger cultural problem with high energy usage in ireland. #neoliberalism #biggerisnotbetter #findnewrevenuestreams
Unclear if this is the 4th, or 5th time RTE have updated this article but it is well worth a read. #ireland

Government must prioritise sustainable transport in any emergency relief funding
The solution to the rising cost of oil will never be tax reduction. It’s better cycling infrastructure, more frequent & reliable public transport and Work from Home measures
Cut excise duty AND provide additional bus services and routes in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford. Give people real options, it's 2026. #ireland

LinkedIn is refusing to run Irish language adverts, even during Seachtain na Gaeilge, saying the platform does not support the language.
LinkedIn’s largest office outside the US is in Dublin
Vulnerability shouldn't be an obstacle to getting involved in politics.
If anything, it's a benefit.
For too long, we've seen emotional shutdown from govt parties, who seem unable to empathise with regular people and constituents.
It's time to change that.
And in case there is any doubt about this, environmental groups have brought the CRU to the high court to object to their policy which green lights these damaging DC-energy infrastructure projects.
Report on that @rte.ie.

Instead of announcing policies to curb or manage the increase in data centres, the government is rolling out the red carpet.
Today marks National Day of Action on Data Centres. Volunteers and community groups across the country are raising awareness about their negative impact on our energy security, supply and prices.
It is not the legislation itself that would give rise to a challenge; it would be any continuing failure by Ireland to comply with its obligations that could present a legal challenge. Non-compliance would be a breach of Ireland’s international obligations. #gaza

"The gulf states gave the US the right to have military bases on their territory in order to protect them, but instead the presence of these bases has actually become the source of their insecurity". Food for thought. #ireland #neoliberalism

We are sorry to hear about deportations such as these. Vulnerable families should not be deported like this after having spent time integrating, regardless of their official status. This is wrong, and we need to wake up. #ireland #scapegoating #taxsuperwealth

We emailed the Road Safety Authority over a year ago to ask for some collision statistics and data and this is what we got back. They didn´t even provide data of the make and model of the vehicles involved in fatal collisions. No words. #ireland #roaddeaths #rsa
Data centres, mostly located in the east of the country use substantial amounts of water. A medium-sized data centre can consume up to roughly 110 million gallons of water per year for cooling purposes. We won't even go there regarding electricity #ireland #neoliberalism

This article is almost 10 years old but is more relevant than ever. Wealth distribution matters. When an increasing amount of a nation´s wealth becomes more concentrated, social mobility falls & democratic institutions weaken #taxsuperwealth www.irishtimes.com/opinion/diar...
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.
The most effective way to cut road deaths is to cut car dependency. The best way to cut car dependency is to:
1: Increase investment in public transit
2: Enact transit oriented development putting people closer to where they need to go.
Not more SUVs, not a ring road #ireland #rocketscience
