Little green cactus with lots of spikes
The least good part of my day was working out field weighted citation impacts for a bunch of individual papers. Is there a reason AI can’t automate all this silly work?
The best thing about today was peer coaching with leaders from across my uni. Professional and academic staff who might never usually meet, trusting each other and developing #leadership skills.
(Entirely genuine gratitude post)
I'm glad @aliepea.bsky.social is here now so I can publicly thank her for creating an #AcWriMo space in the School of Public Health. Logging achievements on the accountability spreadsheet is really working for me!
I like to check in on the other place as some of my excellent colleagues have yet to migrate. My "For You' feed is dominated by yesterday's warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology, a smattering of news posts, and a lot of ads. Has everyone else left?

So excited for this one: the next CfP for the American Journal of Public Health's 2024-2025 special sections on LGBTQ+ Health is here!
🎉🎉 LGBTQ+ Wellbeing, Flourishing, Pride & Joy! 🎉🎉
A colleague and I were laughing so hard on a zoom call she had to apologise to unseen office mates. It was good to share a laugh
Very envious - our bucket of tadpoles turned out to be mosquito larvae
Worked on a vaping paper led by the excellent Ruby Grant, and worked on the report for SWASH 2024 (biennial survey of LBQ women’s health, run with ACON). Very satisfying :)
I’m going to post about #AcWriMo to keep myself accountable. And to show myself how productive I can be if I shut my door, ignore my email and pretend I have no responsibilities.
Check out our most recent paper from our longitudinal qual study QSOX. It's about vaping among sexual minority women in Australia (none of my co-authors are here, yet!) rdcu.be/dZ9NE
Most of my #AcWriMo time has been spent writing ‘research opportunity and performance evidence’ for a grant application. Does this count? Or is AcWriMo for outputs?
On reflection, my feelings are not so mixed lol
I’ve been bragging about university rankings on LinkedIn and the other place. Bluesky feels like the wrong crowd for uni rankings. Except to admit I have very mixed feelings about uni rankings.
(Reposting given the Great Twitter Migration of 2024)
Come do your PhD with me on the ethics and politics of risk imposition, just risk distribution, and vaccines! 🥳 🎉
A fully funded PhD scholarship & you'd have access to the fabulous folks at Sydney Health Ethics.
See details below #bioethics
I'm late to the #AcWriMo party this year but grateful for the Sydney School of Public Health crew for running some shut up and write sessions for me to join. Thanks to @ruthmottram.bsky.social for putting 'pay yourself first' into my feed.

I’ve also enjoyed your kids and back lanes content :)
Same reason we’ve never disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle right?
Omg yes and have you ever encountered any??
I’m preparing to abandon the other place…
I’d love to see some discussion in the media about the loss of a public health channel…
Welcome Melody :) I’m curious what today’s government announcement banning <16yo on social media means for health communication…
Important for teams to understand how DFV can play out for LGBTQ+ people including threats around identity, outing, denying or interfering with gender affirming care 2/
LGBTQ women’s health conf Melbourne: important work from Jodie and Amy @ ThorneHarbour AOD service reflecting on family violence among clients. Two case studies of misidentification of perpetrators and shifting power dynamics key to understanding LGBTQ+ DFV 1/
At LGBTQ women’s health conference Melb listening to Jade Parker from ACON talk about community care for LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual violence. Community needs better education about what sexual violence is and how to respond to a disclosure - a friend is the most likely to hear first disclosure 1/
What do safe support services look like for bi+ women. Are mainstream and/or LGBTQ inclusive services well equipped? 3/
