Starmer would have blocked Mandelson role over vetting failure, says Lammy Deputy prime minister says it is ‘inexplicable’ top civil servant kept Downing Street in dark

“Sure, we knew about his shady business links and friendship with the world’s most notorious sex-trafficker and all the other publicly available information. But if we’d known the security services thought that was ‘a red flag’? Heavens no. Not in a million years”

The camera move from the window to Riker is really lovely too, in the way that it links the establishing model shot with the interior

mRNA technology may be THE most underrated and unfairly scrutinized (fuck you COVID antivax crew) medical breakthrough in my lifetime.

Like... The things this is already showing it can do in the last 5-7 years is incredible.

at this point it's like telling people their clothes are made in sweatshops. nobody disputes that fact, but they just don't want to have to think about it.

i shouldn't be surprised by this stuff anymore, but the extent to which society has just decided it's bored of hearing about the michael jackson allegations is honestly shocking to me.

One of the things I like about Australian politics is that there’s a clear choice on who to vote for.

Is it not a bit weird, how the loudest treason-screechers always turn out to be offering huge government contracts to very dubious foreigners

Is it a bit odd, that the British public were subjected to years of screaming terror about leftist traitors, at the secret behest of an extremely weird and creepy backroom Gollum figure who is mobbed up with Russian oligarchs and Chinese generals

It's in the dictionary next to Upton Sinclair's famous line that "it is hard to get a man to understand something when he is a massive dumbass"

I believe the full quote is "to paraphrase Cormac McCarthy, you never know what worse institutions your bad institutions have saved you from, if you are being dumb on purpose"

Pretty wild that a Kotaku writer doesn't know what "live service" means in the context of games.

Since this post is aggregating my Bloomberg column, I kinda feel the need to clarify that the Imagine Dragons game is not "live-service" (designed for recurring monetization). It's a $15 multiplayer shooter with no microtransactions.

It's rather sweet that Fallout 4 inadvertently borrowed some King's Quest magic via the game engine being so buggy that sometimes touching one of those old derelict cars will kill the player instantly

A flatscreen display on a "smart" water fountain, demanding to be reconnected to the internet.

In 1999, I was playing a decker in Shadowrun, and tried to distract a guard by hacking a water fountain to overflow, and my GM said "why would a water fountain be on the network? That's fucking stupid. No you can't try."

Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!

Boss's Katana amps are the most metal computing devices ever created because you get insanely hardcore update instructions like this:

"When the computer restarts, connect KATANA to the computer with a USB cable, and turn on the power of KATANA"

Turn on the power of... KATANA!!!!

Ok, so, real talk: this is a cocaine problem masked as a drinking problem. It's REALLY HARD to get this level of drunk, because your body will just pass out once it has this much alcohol in it. Cocaine keeps you going, and lets you keep drinking, long after you otherwise would have just passed out.
