Oh Bluesky hive mind - I’m looking for recommendations for heat pump/battery/solar consulting for my London Victorian era home - I’d like to swap out gas boiler for heat pump, ideally have a battery and either have solar or definitely be able to go there in the future

overlooking a series of circular water filled tanks of a sewage treatment plant at night.

lights line a long brick building on the horizon as a blue-black sky is stark behind a veil of thin puffy clouds in the distance.

good night, sewers.
good night, streams.
good night, operations and maintenance teams.
good night, settling tanks.
good night, stream banks.
good night, engineers, scientists, crews, managers, inspectors, analysts too.
a good night for us means serving with care.

good night, sewers, everywhere.

I’m now wanting to know what’s to the left. The pub, the train station, the moors, the canal?

Ice spike - Wikipedia

It's like ice spikes, isn't it?

I think that’s what it is

2 months ago 1 0 1 0

I don’t think it was this as there doesn’t appear to be a hole. Could be a drip from the gutter above but even that looks to be in the wrong place

2 months ago 0 0 1 0

It’s just a shallow puddle on top of a plastic container and there’s no hole so I don’t think it’s expansion.

Does anyone know how this formed? Ice funnel about 7cm high and 2cm diameter sticking up from a sheet of ice on a horizontal plastic surface.

A piece of covid pandemic history spotted yesterday. This must have been from sometime in Feb 2020 and the poster was probably only relevant for 2-3 weeks. It’s easy to forget now how little we knew and how fast things moved in the early days.

The sneeze secret: how much should you worry about this explosive reflex? It is one of the most powerful involuntary actions the human body can perform. But is a big sneeze a sign of illness, pollution or something else entirely?

Great to chat with Joel Snape about all things sneezing. Great seeing comments from @cathnoakes.bsky.social too

'Some people have 10 million times more virus than others': Are you a flu superspreader? A growing body of research suggests that everything from the shape of your lungs to how you enunciate your Ts and Ks could make you a flu superspreader.

I was recently asked to comment on superspreading for a BBC article. Little did I know, my quote would become the title!
