Finchley synagogue target of antisemitic arson attack Police say two suspects threw petrol-filled bottles at Finchley Reform Synagogue but they did not ignite.

I was the tour guide for an FRS group in Prague last weekend, and was literally there last night teaching their conversion class. I left at 9.45pm and a few hours later, two people try to firebomb the place. Awful, scary, shocking but unfortunately not such a surprise www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What connects Umberto Eco, Bill Clinton, Vaclav Havel, Louis Armstrong, Kofi Annan and Tom Cruise? They’ve all frequented the legendary Reduta jazz club in Prague, which is literally one of my favourite places on earth. Such a treat to spend this evening back here

World's longest coastal path opens in England to the public The King Charles coastal path will allow walkers right of access to the entire coast for the first time.

Amazing on so many levels. I love the idea that it has taken almost two decades - it’s the kind of “multi-generational” (at least in government terms!) project that we need many more of but get far too few of www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Spying on Jean Charles de Menezes family 'invasive', inquiry told Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, was shot and killed by police outside Stockwell Tube station in 2005.

They killed their kid then spied on them as grieving parents. Mind-bogglingly awful www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Henrietta Lacks: Family of 'stolen cells' woman settle second lawsuit Novartis is the second drug company to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of a woman whose cells have enabled huge advances in science.

Periodic reminder that "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is one of the best books I've ever read and if you haven't yet, go and grab a copy to learn about this remarkable and deeply ethically-challenging story www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The #Samurai exhibition at the British Museum is really good. Fascinating objects with good curation, the right length and a strong balance between telling a story and shattering some myths

Harry Kane reaches 500 goals - what other records could he break? Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane became the first Englishman to reach 500 career goals on Saturday, but what other records could he break?

“Kane reached 500 goals in 743 appearances for club and country.
That means he got to the milestone quicker than Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who in 2015 hit his 500th goal on his 753rd game in professional football.”

Kane is incredible, and serially underrated

I only have one, relatively minor, quibble (I won't say as it is kind of a spoiler). But just the one. It's superb TV. Everyone involved should be very proud. Jack Thorne continues to be the writer with the Midas touch (2/2)

Cripes... the new BBC adaptation of #LordOfTheFlies is exceptional. A brilliant telling of this darkest and most timelessly-relevant of tales, with strong performances from the young cast, some daring, haunting camerawork and absolutely no shying away from the visceral violence of the material (1/2)

2025 | מרכז טאוב The Taub Center is proud to present the Singer Series State of the Nation Report 2025, edited by Prof. Avi Weiss. The chapters of the report will be released gradually over the coming month. The book ...

Very interesting (as always) data from The Taub Center in Israel www.taubcenter.org.il/en/states/20.... One stat that really stood out - in 2025 Israel will have had the lowest population growth % in its entire history, and also the highest number of emigrants (with 2026 possibly having even more)

#Hamnet - wow what a film. Absolutely stunning acting from Mescal and, especially, Buckley. Yes it’s melodramatic to the point of emotional manipulation but isn’t it for film to put in pictures and sounds the feelings that make us all human?

Whilst broadly I think #StrangerThings stuck the landing, and it remains a wonderful story told with emotion and awesome action, ultimately it could have been ever better with a bit more narrative bravery. Also the last hour is Return of the King-esque and that isn't a compliment
