Oh look, here's a book!
Going through the usual motions
Bit of a late start today 🌞
He treats misrecognition as structural and recurring, not exceptional.
So, instead of trying to be recognised correctly, he asks that you understand the mechanics so clearly that you are not surprised by failure.
He looks at political and social systems and says: these are not stable moral orders, but cycles of power, cohesion (ʿasabiyyah), and decay.
He strips away illusion about institutions and shows how legitimacy is produced, maintained, and lost.
Looking to the Arab world, we have Ibn Khaldun.
Ibn Khaldun is almost the opposite register to Rūmī. He's not mystical, but analytical to the core.

V interesting. As I keep saying, economic statistics really matter (& need funding). A state that doesn’t know what’s what (about itself and its oppos) is in trouble.
So instead of being placed correctly or acting freely within broken systems, Rūmī moves to a condition where being misread no longer threatens his sense of worth.
This is why his language is so expansive: it pulls everything—loss, exile, confusion—into a larger coherence.
For Rūmī, value is not secured by systems, but by an inner orientation. Recognition from institutions becomes secondary, almost irrelevant: the real work is alignment with a deeper source of meaning.
Now, if we look to the Persian world, we have Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī. Rūmī isn’t just a poet of love. Structurally, he answers the same condition we've been tracing—misrecognition, unstable value—but he relocates the centre entirely.

Thanks! That goes for all sports, I think—the mind//body duality is one Western philosophy does not reconcile very well.
I'm repeating myself, but it is a classic. 🍨
