This small, lovely creature doesn’t know anything about what’s going on in the human world today and I am so goddamn jealous.

Genuinely wondering what’s going to happen to the arts in this country. If all the higher ed consultants say that music comp programs should go, which they seem to be doing, you can bet that our field will become even narrower and less egalitarian than it currently is. It’s truly heartbreaking.

Started the set theory unit today in sophomore theory and I forgot how much I truly ❤️ teaching this topic.

It’s almost like public education is in a manufactured budget crisis designed to create a scarcity mindset so they can justify closing programs and firing people.

Went to a concert that featured several of our SU student composers today & I know those of us who teach comp all feel this way, but it is so amazing to see all the wild creativity that students come up with. Always the best part of the job and makes it easier to hit the grading the next day. 😂

The October No Kings protest was glorious and a huge mental health boost to see so many people coming out against the idiocy. Am unable to go today, unfortunately, but I’m there in spirit and looking forward to seeing all the pics. ❤️

This is horrific. Pregnancy losses - for *whatever reason* shouldn’t be anyone else’s business. This also puts women who miscarry under criminal scrutiny - honestly, nothing about this climate encourages having kids.

Grading and then procrastinating by taking breaks to read the news, which consequently makes grading seem much more palatable. 😵‍💫

Other than that I will say that I cherish the friends with whom I know I can share a petty rant 😂

Leaving FB, Twitter, and Insta helped me a lot. Especially leaving FB. The culture on there was (is? I dunno anymore) so unbelievably braggy and performative, it was hard for me not to feel like trash after looking at it.

The problem with spring break is I always feel this immense pressure to try to cram in all the tasks that I have been neglecting. But I think I truly need today to just stare into space and recharge. Gonna do my best to not feel guilty about it.

When someone begins a sentence with “I asked Claude,” I literally have to expend all my energy arranging my face to not convey how much judgment I feel.

So when music folks in academia are eager to poop on classical music to seem cool and curry favor with their students, I find it kind of sad and pathetic. You are not transgressive, you're just doing capital's work for them

It’s also depressing to me when classical music people do this to themselves in an attempt to try to seem hip or cool. Like…it’s ok to actually like classical music. It’s ok to be into niche things.
