Mountain madness yesterday on Schiehallion, a Gaelic name that means The Faerie Hill of the Caledonians (1085m, 3553 ft, but you set off from 1150 ft)). We didn’t see the faeries, but we had a personal audience shown here with their ambassador - a most stately ptarmigan. Absolutely wiped out today!

Island Peace and Quiet In a world of "lo-fi" urban noise, the island represents more than a vacation—it is a physiological reset, a biological necessity, and a return to our "Hi-Fi" origins.

Check out Dr Andrew Jennings, Associate Professor in Island Studies @thinkuhi.bsky.social UHI Institute for Northern Studies, latest Substack post in which he discusses the auditory attractions of islands in the context of tourism.

Last year a chapter of mine was published. I wrote the chapter in 2010. Several of the contributors were dead by the time the book was published. 😀

Podcast: Alastair McIntosh Riders on the Storm: Climate, Community and the Survival of Being

Here's the podcast interview and a good transcript that Beshara Magazine did with me. It's partly about my books, but most is about growing up in the Isle of Lewis, the island's influence on my work, and what a deepening spiritual life can offer to the world.

I’ve been asking AI how it works, and without needing to get into the statistical mapping of language model word associations onto vector space, the bottom line is there is no sapient IQ in AI, but it also queries how much “intelligence” there is in what most of us mostly say!

Celtic - Christian Spiritual Ecology - an interview with Alastair McIntosh YouTube video by St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace

Here’s my sharing with the folks at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Recociliation & Peace in London last June. It includes an exploration of their stained glass window with this formidable woman, the verse “O pray for the peace of Jerusalem” … towards a healing of the nations”.

The best albums and songs of 2025: Unexpected comebacks and operatic pop From Pulp's unexpected comeback to Rosalía's experimental pop, here's the best music of the year.

Astonishing! A sign of changing times, yearning for depth? A BBC super-ranking of the best music albums of 2025 makes No. 1 Rosalia’s “Lux” (Light). She told Billboard: “Each song is inspired by the story of a [female] saint. A main theme is not fearing.”
