holds the account. Is this really good application of data protection law? No! That isn't personal data, surely? Back to my letting agent/ the property management company I go. At least I can say I told you so, although I would rather just be able to pay my electricity bill and know it's all OK. 4/4

registered at my address (although the account itself is). And here's where DP comes in... it needs the business to make the amendments and register the property and account as a residential address and no I cannot be told if the bill is being paid by anyone or which business 3/4
find out who my energy supplier is and going round in circles with various suppliers and my letting agent and the building property management company. Less so. Today I found out what I have suspected all along... the account is registered as a business account and the energy board supply isn't 2/4
A mini rant about data protection. GDPR is incredibly important. I navigate it every day in archives & rm whether it's in terms of how to manage researcher information or access to 20th/21st century records. But when it comes to I have been living in my flat since October and trying to 1/4
Front of a light pink paper programme which says "Stretham Players Presents Sleeping Beauty".
What else to do when you're back in the village you grew up in on the second Saturday of half-term? Why attend the local panto of course... oh no she didn't, oh yes she did!
Glad to hear you made it back in time!
Ouch. Hope it's OK.
I now have not 1 but 2 comfy reading chairs and a sofa to choose from when snuggling under my blanket, courtesy of a spare rocking chair from my sister. The existing chair and sofa were courtesy of Emmaus Leeds a fab charity who work with ex-homeless & I highly recommend for 2nd hand furniture. 2/2
Back to my flat in Leeds after a wonderfully refreshing Christmas and New Year break in Cambridgeshire. Well apart from yet another awful cold. My flat is now a balmy 15.4°c so I'm huddled under a blanket. Still warmer than the 11°c it was after 1.5 weeks without heating. And more importantly 1/2
Ooh I do like a subscription library bookplate. This is a rather detailed one too.
I need to pay better attention!
It really is!
Ooh yes I would be.
Ah true. Apologies!!
Oh of course. Absolute nightmare!the image, the type, the handwriting!have lots of those with the Bamforth postcard collection too.
You work in publishing history and don't know about crown copyright?! Oof!!!
You were along the right lines. I mean that's assuming there were contracts in place and it does get complicated as that isn't always clear and it could be with the institution or the creator, or the crown... Otherwise could be an orphan work if don't know but that wouldn't be the case for an OS map
I think the overall takeaway from these conversations is copyright is complicated. For this reason I am very much looking forward to the next edition of the archive bible, aka Copyright for Archivists and Records Managers by Tim Padfield.
Ooh interesting. Music copyright is so complicated too. With the typographical arrangement at 25 years, and then often multiple copyrights if e.g. lyricists, multiple composers or arrangers, was it published before X date etc. We have many modern music collections @heritagequay.bsky.social
It will be until 70 years after death of the creator. Even if they worked for an institution and the copyright is with the institution rather than the individual it still goes on the dates of the creator if known. Why copyright is such a minefield! Sound recordings are also incredibly difficult.
And fascinating and dramatic accounts. Shows the importance of newspapers for recording evidence. You've done a fantastic job with the site though. Was like I wonder who these people were and the link to the biographies you've created is a historian/researcher's dream!
I love a copyright session (you can tell I'm an Archivist and ex-library/book historian right!?!). I'm thinking this is a good example to use with students when we cover basic copyright principles with them.
Success today!
That is a very good point to make and one that can easily be forgotten in the difference between American and UK copyright law.

And some more. My fave is the peasant as apparently incredibly rare for a lay person to be depicted and used to be in a window in the Lady Chapel @elycathedral.bsky.social
Still don't have DMs on here! Will search it without using the link and find it!

Ended 2025 the right way after a year that has been a lot in my personal and professional life. Finally visited the wonderful @stainedglassmuseum.bsky.social in Ely. Absolutely fantastic and can highly recommend.
