Serapias cordigera, Tuberaria guttata, Hyla molleri, Euphorbia transtagana and Pycnogaster sp.,
There was also time for a botanical walk, where we admired the spectacular flowering of Serapias orchids, boosted by the winter rains, and discovered unique species such as Euphorbia transtagana, an Iberian endemic, but “almost Portuguese” 😉
Throughout the visit, we stopped at several thematic stations where students had hands-on experience with ecological methods: from techniques to study plant–insect interactions, to assessing ecosystem services provided by biocrusts, as well as methods for studying birds, small mammals, and fish.

White form of the tassel hyacinth or tassel grape hyacinth #muscaricomosum. I do love when I find white individuals of this beatiful hyacinth bulbous flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae. #botanyisnotdead #longlivebotany #leucism #albinism #whiteforms 🌱🧪🌿🪴

What an amazing day yesterday at the #HerdadeDaRibeiraAbaixo, the field station of @cienciasulisboa.bsky.social ! 🌱 In the #DiversidadeVegetal course, we got to explore and recognize different habitats and species of Portuguese flora. 🌿🪶

Not 100% sure, but probably. Even with efforts from academia and NGOs to propose alternatives, it’s still hard to move away from the Pinus pinaster / Eucalyptus globulus combo.
Spring is coming at the @cienciasulisboa.bsky.social campus!
An #apismellifera visiting #trifoliumnigrescens reminds us how #urbanbiodiversity supports vital #ecosystemservices: From #pollination to healthier #greenspaces, even tiny interactions help keep city ecosystems thriving.

Yesterday I left with a full heart and recharged batteries after the senior course “Understanding the World in the 21st Century” at the Lisbon University
We discussed the #biodiversitycrisis and #citizenscience, not only as a powerful source of data, but also as a way of (re)connecting with nature.
It wasn’t in flower yet, but it’s beautiful all the same!!
