Headline: "Bank Fires Workers in Favor of AI Chatbot, Rehires Them After Chatbot Is Terrible at the Job"
Content: Bank lied about call volumes after introducing voice chatbot, union got involved, workers rehired.
This is why it isn't enough to just read headlines.
I had family in town this weekend and I asked them if they'd encountered any unnecessary federal law enforcement (I don't remember what word I actually used, but I also don't think it was actually unnecessary), and they responded yes, and they'd thanked them for their service. WHAT???
Thanks! That was where I was looking, and it was user error (mine, that is) that made me think reservations weren't available.
Thanks! It turned out that my problem was user error and the restaurant I was aiming for actually did have reservations available at the time I was looking at.
I'm not a brunch person (don't get me wrong, I LOVE brunch food) so planning family brunch is stressing me out. Does anywhere in the Dupont/Adams Morgan/U St area take reservations for weekend brunch?
A white goat sitting on grass and sticking its tongue out
In the pets-on-social-media world, Tuesdays are #TongueOutTuesday so I've been holding on to this goat from the petting zoo at the Bellevue Library @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social back to school event last week.
On the one hand, I really should have taken Metro to this meeting across the street from the Anacostia metro. On the other hand, I barely made it back to my car without melting; I don't think I would survive waiting for a train.
Neither have I. I don't want to discover that it's reasonable to shop there and start going there regularly instead of walking to stores closer to me ๐คฃ
I'll look them up!
National Gallery cafeteria is an option I hadn't thought of. If we're going to Maryland, though, we're meeting at a board member's house much closer to the District than Rockville or Largo ๐คฃ
Oh, and November.
AV is a nice-to-have but isn't necessary. I'm intrigued by the idea of meeting at a Wegmans. Can you tell me more?
Local friends, I am looking for a location to hold a four hour meeting on a Sunday for seven people, ideally for free, from 11-3ish. So not the library, because the hours are wrong. Capital One Cafe limits room use to two hours. DPR locations are closed on Sundays. What options am I missing?
As long as I remember to autocorrect "pubic" to "public," everything else I can do when I notice it. But it's better when all the customizations don't just disappear!
Noooo!! ๐ญ
I have been posting liberally on the Make Community how-to board, but if any of you use Make in conjunction with Notion and have some time (and willingness) to walk through some problems I'm having over videochat, I would be extremely, in not eternally, grateful.
This symposium on local government power/authority might be of particular interest to my DC peeps. Symposium is in NYC but also over Zoom. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
I think that's the tip I was thinking of, thank you! There's another tip that involves bread, maybe, but I don't have any bread in my house right now. Rags I have in spades.
Remind me please what the trick is for making sure that you've swept up all the tiny shard when you drop and break something glass? I broke a jar in the bathroom which is where the cats go to drink water, and I don't want anyone to hurt their little beans.
Sending good vibes to you and Wiggles.
A friend of @justiceaccess.org reached out on behalf of a friend with a donation of large men's clothing. Do you have a recommendation for an organization that would appreciate the donation, and could pick it up from the donor in Adams Morgan?
I have become a serious Notion devotee. That said, import [break for two hours to manage flooding] -ing dates in Notion is COMPLICATED. And case sensitive.
Okay. I think that's all of my towels on the floor. No comments please on how my rain boots were exactly where I left them after the last time I needed to go outside to clear the drain after the water level was already to my door.
You know, if my mom were living, I would be calling her and she would be saying "why didn't you clean the drain? You know better!" and then I would wonder why I called her since I knew she would criticize me. Friday is my last day of the year (11 months) of saying kaddish for her.
Okay, big sigh of relief. The water is draining faster than it's coming down, and the only issue remaining appears to be that it would really help to have a wet dry vac. Which I don't think my building has, but I should probably look instead of assuming.
I actually only noticed the water creeping my way because the cat I had with me got his paws wet!
Water that has reached the interior hallway of my ground floor apartment
Oh effer-dee-eff. I knew better. I really and truly knew better. I was GOING to clear the drain before the rain started. As you can see, I didn't.
Me too! I did decide to sit in the hall with one of my cats so that we'd be away from windows, just in case, but I wasn't so worried about it that I moved my other cats from the rooms (with windows) where they are eating dinner.
