This effort by telecom execs to force tech companies to pay them huge new surcharges for no reason has been a generation in the making. It's what started the net neutrality wars.
This new effort will be couched under a lot of empty rhetoric claiming it's necessary to "bridge the digital divide."

I wrote about how Republicans like Brendan Carr (R, AT&T) will likely soon push a new tax on your Netflix bill that they claim will be used to expand broadband access, but will likely help fund new boats for telecom executives:
The FDA says that it will indeed block most Americans from getting COVID vaccines, thus severely restricting it to people over 65 or a person with "pre-existing conditions".
Welp, it begins to people dying at a rapid alarming rate. :(

Every Democrat supporting censorship bills like KOSA and the repeal of Section 230 is actively helping carry out Project 2025’s vision of erasing trans people and abortion information from the Internet.
Our health care is being taken away. Our existence is criminalized. Democrats are helping do it
this was Verizon's reward for buckling under Trump's demands that they be more racist, and sitting on their hands while Elon Musk steals their $2 billion FAA contract

hey, folks.
as soon as i can, i’ll whip up short KOSA call scripts if it helps. but a thing you need to know is that *calling* elected reps is pretty much the lowest effort bar. for real.
sadly, social media tags do nothing to change votes.
you can’t just @ a rep & say “i did my part.”
Don't take my word for it.
Here's @mmasnick.bsky.social on WTF the Dems are thinking helping this administration unleash a major censorship machine at the worst possible time to boot.

Like I said, this would create more censorship and chilling of speech, especiially towards minorities and the marginalized.

US Senators have reintroduced KOSA today and sadly I expect this to become law invevitably as it gained even more support (from Apple most notably) since it was stalled late last year.

This is going to get real ugly very soon, and many aren't ready for it.
Oh it will be, and it's yet another blatant unconstitutional bill that the courts are being forced to address.

They murder us.
Here's a very informative piece on the FCC under chairman and censor-in-chief Brendan Carr as he approaches his first 100 days and it's a great takedown and bashing as you can expect from Karl.
He's anti-consumer, pro-censorship, very pro-telecom (mostly towards Starlink), and much more.
This piece is so good and well researched that it even pissed off the Hacker News "bros" as someone shared the piece and it was immediately "killed".
How far do we think we are from Trump trying to quarter law enforcement in people's houses to wait for their prey to come home?
The FBI just arrested a Wisconsin circuit court judge for failing to assist ICE to its satisfaction in their kidnapping of a human being out of court custody and into a death camp.
Any attempt to soften the reality of that statement is fascist propaganda.

Foreign Friends with Travel Plans to the U.S. for Conventions:
A bit back I said you should maybe reconsider those plans.
I would like to amend my prior statement.
Cancel them. Cancel them now. We cannot keep you safe from our own government. Take your holiday in Spain or something.
It's going to be a very rough time for organizers and events alike this year and the coming decade to come and I feel for them especially the smaller orgs and non profits who are suffering for no fault of their own.
If you are planning conferences, conventions and trade shows over the next several months, it's very likely that there will be significant attendance declines due to the current political climate, and rightfully so.
In other words, expect a delay or even a cancellation at this point.
FDA just missed its deadline to approve a Covid shot
Terrible news, and you're not alone on having to make difficult choices for no reason. :(
