We were gifted a set of the board game Quoridor, which I had never heard of before, but it's great!

Finished reading Percival Everett's "Dr. No" today. I really enjoyed it, especially the ending, but find it difficult to explain the plot to others
I'd debated reading "Project Hail Mary" before seeing the film, but after watching it yesterday I'm glad I didn't! What great fun
Was excited to try a new cafe in my immediate neighborhood, but I should have clocked the warning signs (most people ordered instagrammable-looking drinks and took selfies with them before leaving). The coffee, if the criterion is "drinkable", was a complete waste of money π
i just watched a mivie where there's a penguin and he DIES in it, and I was absolutely not ready for that π
My go-to single origin coffee bean has been Ethiopia since forever, but most of the Costa Rica beans I've tried lately have been absolutely killing it!
This new gigantic battery technology sounds pretty neat, although the fact that it requires purpose-made CO2 is a bit of a bummer: spectrum.ieee.org/co2-battery-...
Our cat understands only BP because that's what she grew up with and thus I am trying to learn, since I married into the family πΉ i mostly say "do you want to eat?" and "who is my princess?" and we get along just fine with that!
Just found myself replying in English to a Korean text from my mom asking me to translate some French copy on a card she'd received, right after which I asked my cat, in her native language (Brazilian Portuguese), if she was ready for her evening snack πΉ
this story about the drunken raccoon was one of the first things I read this morning and produced honest-to-goodness guffaws when I first saw the photo. I've looked at it many more times today π Quite something! www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12...
I've owned, and been very happy with, an ebook-reader for over a decade, but lately have found myself preferring to read the physical copy of a book. I consider this a pain, as I still don't love clutter or having to find more shelf space.
TIL about Chernoff faces πhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernoff_face
This month's decaf from @yesplz.coffee (Finca Triunfo Verde, from Mexico) is fantastic - haven't brewed a bad cup yet!
My car is from 2007 but today I drove a friend's new car, and I understand better now why drivers seem to have gotten so much worse in recent years. Who thought replacing everything physical with computers or screens was a good idea??? Who needs their car beeping at them constantly!?!
Learned some fun new facts from this random wikipedia article about the pixel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel
I was having to explain why you can't rely on answers from ChatGPT or the Google search page and it hit me so hard how deeply unethical these companies are being, pushing this stuff on everyone
Took a chance on a Waymo yesterday even though it was a rainy day. It picked a route that required a lot of stops, and was also more cautious than I've observed on previous rides. Got me carsick π€’
TIL: "sward" - a grassy expanse
The little courtyard next to the Maybourne is a secret gem in Beverly Hills. The fact the the garage beneath it has two hours of free parking really makes it.
I'd been feeling some jaw tightness for the past few days, and was doing a bunch of neck stretches/massages, which only relieved it temporarily. After my run today I did a standing figure 4 stretch and the pain disappeared immediately. The body, how does it work!?
No feeling like falling sleep to the sound of ocean waves under a nice umbrella on a sunny day
Gave HIGH AND LOW (1963) a re-watch after many years. It's really underrated! I'd forgotten how painstakingly thorough the police procedural part gets. Makes me curious what shape the remake will take.
I've ordered a few decaf Ethiopian beans from Equator Coffees now and have been very happy with them. It's greatly eased my resentment over having to drink decaf - cheers! www.equatorcoffees.com/collections/...
Ignore the clickbait title, and maybe the directly religious bits don't work for you, but even still, a pretty well-considered perspective on the current AI scene www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/read...
Took my first ride in a self-driving car today and it really did feel like the future π
Bought a Kingrinder K6 last year to brew espresso, but I've been so impressed by how well it does on drip coffee that it's prompted me to get rid of my Encore. My pourovers and French press brews are so, so clean. Manual grinders have come a really long way in the past ten years!
I limit myself to 5oz of regular coffee a day, but even at that dose, I start to get a withdrawal headache if my morning cup is delayed more than an hour π΅
The author of this intends for it to be "the best, most accurate, and most thorough guide to the deadlift on the internet" and it probably is! www.strongerbyscience.com/how-to-deadl...
Fruit is so good this time of year!
