Regarding lists of free textures and alphas, there's a lot of free texture packs (alphas, masks and more) to be found on Itch, such as screamingbrainstudios.itch.io/noise-textur...
Look for the texture tag in the Game Assets category.
Multiple screenshots of a sphere with feather type shapes simply stuck onto it. There are multiple types of vertex normal projections put onto the feathers showing different methods for smoothing them
