Book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs, with 'Sold' topping the list The American Library Association says book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs. Efforts to remove titles have become more coordinated and politicized.

“Libraries exist to make space for every story and every lived experience,” ALA President Sam Helmick said in a statement. “As we celebrate National Library Week, we reaffirm that libraries are places for knowledge, for access, and for all.”

It’s always a joyous day when I get to hand out books to my students—and today was such a day! STORY STORM is an anthology of stories, poems, and other creative pieces that we wrote throughout our fall term.

We’re letting big corporations gamble with our lives. Act now, or the food could run out | George Monbiot The fragility of the global food system fills me with dread – and the war with Iran has exposed just how close to collapse it is, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

"Just as we make ourselves more energy-secure by switching from fossil fuels to renewables, we make ourselves more food-secure by switching from animals to plants." - @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

The students in my creative writing class decided to launch their own newspaper this weekend. I’m not entirely sure their perspectives are fair.

It’s Getting Harder to Spot AI in Contemporary Publishing. And That’s Very, Very Bad. Lately there has been a lot of hand-wringing, and rightly so, about if and how the publishing industry will deal with AI in the wake of the cancelation of the first major book deal due to suspected…

"Because at its heart, AI and the havoc it’s causing is a labor issue."

It’s such a pleasure having my books for sale at Munro’s. I’m glad to know it was jam-packed with customers. We live in a book loving town. No question. And of all the books, they chose this one. How lovely. 🐝 🍃

The blossom-fall is bittersweet. The flutter of pink is magical, but it’s sad to see them slowly disintegrating. That’s why I took a pic of this blossom that managed to fall perfectly to the pavement, away from its fellows, as if determined to remain a star a bit longer.

A snake approaches a cat's scratching post.
Soon, the snake is hanging from the top of the post by their fangs, thinking, "Hmm... not really understanding the appeal."

My son and I encountered this door on a recent family vacation. Someone—or someTHING—has a very strong grip! Also, it seems to me the dents conspire to form a creature’s face.

Vancouver has snow-free winter for the first time in 43 years
Vancouver has snow-free winter for the first time in 43 years YouTube video by CityNews

It wasn't just a mild winter in Vancouver. Other parts of BC also received much less snow than normal. Despite a La Niña.

Wildfire season in BC will likely be terrible this year.
