Happy 79th to the world’s ‘forgotten boy,’ here Iggy and Biggy Pop. “I never believed that U2 wanted to save the whales. I don't believe that The Beastie Boys are ready to lay it down for Tibet.” - Iggy Pop

Spring in Kopli Bay brings a migration impossible to ignore. Tens of thousands of geese blanket the shallow waters and rocky shoreline, pausing on a journey that stretches far to the north. The murmur of calls and the rustle of wings blend with the quiet outline of the city on the horizon. Amid this moving multitude stands a lone crow — a local observer, almost like a sentinel or a quiet chronicler. Its gaze follows these “tax-free travelers,” who cross borders effortlessly and never stay for long.

I got the Graphic Content label for a picture of a WWII carrier pigeon transported in a pouch designed by a women’s lingerie company. That shocking word BR- !

they got the Church of England supporting the Pope now
as though they deemed our ship some drifting, uninhabited craft; a thing appointed to desolation
The picture shows a fibula (a brooch) in the shape of an owl, decorated with enamel in different colours: The large are orange with blsck pupils, the wings are green with red circles.
A charming #Roman enamelled fibula (a pin for fastening garments) in the form of an #owl.

Remembering Joey Ramone today. The founding member of the Ramones died on this day in 2001. He was 49. Photo from the Bowery at 2nd Street this evening.

BREAKING: The U.S. bishops’ Committee on Doctrine just issued a formal statement defending Pope Leo XIV's teaching authority on just war doctrine — less than twelve hours after JD Vance told a Turning Point USA crowd the pope should “be careful” talking theology.
This is a serious escalation.
Next to the Jefferson Market Garden is the Jefferson Market Library, formerly a courthouse. It was converted to a library in 1961. This has to be the grandest & most opulent of New York’s public branch libraries, with rugs on the floors, comfortable seats, and if you’re a NYT crossword kind of person but don’t subscribe, you can pick up their free daily printouts. Again, a startling contrast to its earlier iteration.
Spring in the Jefferson Market Garden. A perfect time to enjoy its fragrant calm. But I wish there was some sort of plaque on site that acknowledged its pre-garden history, including the presence of the inhumane Women’s House of Detention, which operated there from 1931 - 1971.
And the running blackberry would adorn the parlors of heaven,
I now know what a pismire is.
you now saw through this wreck, as plainly as you see through the peeled, half-unhinged, and bleaching skeleton of a horse

At 45% of the votes counted, the official projection of the National Election Office gives Tisza Party 135 seats in Parliament—a clear constitutional supermajority.
THIS IS A LANDSLIDE! This is a democratic revolution against a corrupt and authoritarian regime.
2.
There is no way back from here for Fidesz, even if it refuses to recognize the election results.
The far-right Our Homeland Movement is in, but this may still change during the night.
Democracy was reclaimed in Hungary today.

“I’m really a New Yorker …
There’s no way out but to say that I’m just a New Yorker,
Not Japanese, not a citizen of the world,
Just a New Yorker who goes wandering around like many New Yorkers.
And like a lot of New Yorkers,
I was one of those bitten by some kind of an idealism.”
But the exhibition is inspirational, and right now, with the museum garden waking up from winter, it’s one of the most serene spots to spend some time.
At the exhibition, it’s so frustrating to see his beautiful play space designs that never got approved by the Park Department. (Also galling that the run-down Noguchi-inspired playground in Rainey Park, near the Noguchi Museum, was replaced with a playground design so alien to Noguchi’s).
The film is included in the wonderful Noguchi’s New York exhibition, at the Noguchi Museum until September 13, 2026. The exhibition traces Noguchi’s work in the city, & the many frustrations he experienced with City administrations blinkered to his bold, new, design aesthetics.
Sixty-five years ago, on April 9th, 1961, when folk musicians and their followers were banned from gathering in Washington Square Park.

Same kind of thing can happen at book readings.
