Don't get me wrong, i'm all for improving via rail, but quite frankly, the only options are
1. build a completely new right of way (at which point just build hsr), or
2. Build additional trackage along CN's corridor (and I know CN will make it take longer and be more expensive than option 1)

I'm like 90% sure that the main reason most of us want high speed rail (myself included) is simply because via rail is awful, unreliable, and presumably has been showing no signs of improvement in basically forever
