Why Ryan Pressly Waived His No-Trade Clause to Join the Cubs It wasn't an easy decision for Ryan Pressly to approve a trade to go from the Astros to the Cubs. This is why he did.

Whether or not to approve a trade from the Astros to the Cubs wasn’t a decision Ryan Pressly made lightly.

I’d guess the Astros would rather not trade him to another team in their division

As for what made it tough, Pressly said his wife is from Houston, and the family lives there year round (kids go to school there).

He's also from Dallas, so playing in the Rangers' division allowed him to see more family and friends on road trips there.

Ryan Pressly on waiving his no-trade clause: "Having a lot of long, hard conversations with family and friends. It was tough to make this decision. Probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. But playing in Chicago has kind of always been a dream of mine."

“I mean, everybody already knows he's a good player, but I think he's just now starting to scratch the surface, and I think he's gonna go a long way. I'm just glad I don't have to face him now, so I'm glad he's with us."
