Any chance they just left him behind?

We need to reestablish a society where lying has consequences and isn't a reliable way of gaining money and power 🧪

map/tarot card fragment, focusing on the lower right corner of the piece, with the compass rose that looks like a jewel in crystal, copper and silver. we can see a piece of the map where a stone circle around a bottomless pit sits on an islet on a lake, with stone stairs jutting out of the islet, going out of the frame.
🗺️ a piece of one of the maps I did for Swords Without Master.

In the U.S., 69 percent of respondents reported at least one negative shock, compared with 46 percent in Singapore. And among Americans who experienced such shocks, 61 percent expressed saving regret, compared with 42 percent among those who didn’t.
The bit in the middle about all the products still sucking really hits home to me and highlights something I tell everyone who will listen. I'll believe the AI productivity hype when the products end users start getting are improving rapidly and materially better than they were.
This implies they put thought into the first move.
It's hard to imagine, but FIFA might deserve this disaster even more than the US does.
The implication here is that a year of secret police crackdowns fueled by racial profiling have left thousands of sleeper agents unmolested, great stuff.

Turns out it is somewhat difficult to forecast for an economy where a madman is wildly turning the knobs back and forth at random and kicking bee nests.

An Indian diplomat expresses India's anger with the US over the sinking of an unarmed Iranian ship that had traveled to participate in Indian peacekeeping exercises.
"Leeroy Jenkins" as a governing philosophy is wild.
The thing about this is, the dice are stacked in favor of the US & Trump. Most times chaos will turn out OK, but each one uses up a bit of luck and the next roll is just a little less tilted in their favor.
This reminds me of the advice on how to tell a crow and a raven apart, if you have to ask which one it is it's a crow.
You know it's a piliated woodpecker when you see it.
the current position of the US government is that NVIDIA should be allowed to sell chips directly to China but banned from using Claude, because the latter is a larger national security risk. that is the level of absolute insanity coming out of the White House & Pentagon nowadays
IMO, the natural state of things in our advanced economies, with our demographics, is deflationary and it's going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out over time.
I can't say I know exactly how this will go hilariously wrong, but it is almost guaranteed to go hilariously wrong.
Occasionally I think the markets start pricing in the most powerful country in world being controlled by an absolute lunatic, then they just go right back to acting normally.

Another way of looking at it:
In general, if the blue line is above the orange, debt/gdp will decline
If the Bush tax cuts had expired on schedule and the Trump tax cuts had never been enacted, blue > orange (dashed)
Instead, spending projections are down! But revenue is down MUCH more (dotted)
Lots of people would disagree, but I think Japan and most of the EU (again pre-COVID) show that an ageing population doesn't result in inflationary pressures.
That said, inflation is very sector specific and an older pop can certainly lead to inflation in some sectors.
There's a decent case to be made, given demographics and automation, that the natural state of things is pretty deflationary (as things looked in a lot of the world before COVID).
More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...
"Images obtained by CBS News appear to show the zip ties and bruised wrists of Anabel Romero's 14-year-old daughter SueHey, a U.S. citizen who was tending to her 6- and 8-year-old siblings when the agents descended on the crowd in military-style gear and herded them into a confined area."
JUDGE JOHNSTON: “Today, immigrants are being detained without due process. Tomorrow, under the Government’s interpretation of the law, American citizens could be subject to the same .. This Court will not allow such an unraveling of the Constitution.”

Just spitballing here, but maybe we should celebrate all this beautiful stuff and have a better country?
