Seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the @saltshedchicago.bsky.social this week was almost a spiritual experience. He made me cry. But @nickcavefeeds.bsky.social why’d you have to go and steal my album art concept? I’m just a poor starving artist. I ain’t got much.

Say “hi” to my new alter ego.
He's credentialed but has no credibility. Not a populist, but he's popular.
He's more than popular... He's pure lowest common denominator.
Sometimes you just want to write a song that rises to meet the moment. But then I remembered I already had. When the bridge over the river is on fire, you have no choice but to take your chances with the crocodiles. Let’s go swimming.

It would certainly do more good in the world, but tell me… How do you write songs when you so clearly don’t understand figurative language?
This would be acceptable too. (As long as the dogs could still come.)
I don’t really have the energy to try and build or manage a website. I just want to make it easy for people to find my songs if they get curious enough to want to.
Also, thanks.
Nice. When I made this account I think the character limit for the profile description was like, 12 characters. Lol. And no links were allowed.
#musiciansky I've removed the profile link to my linktree and have replaced it with youtube. Looking at the stats and it seems like that site is doing more harm. I get thousands of clicks, but no one ever clicks through. What has been everyone else's experience with this?
Linky-poos. Just pick your favorite.

Ah. Now that I've revisited this I see that bsky deosn't allow links in the profile description. So it would have to be a pinned post. This is the kind of thing that makes bsky not a great interface for creatives. It's not made for us. It's made to argue about politics.
I've found it really difficult to get people to interact with bandcamp too. I've been leaning toward youtube. I've got a decent amount of video content at this point. Maybe I'll make that change and see if I get any results...
See. Rockstar y'all.
This song is so my jam.
That's probably good advice. I stopped using hashtags on the other apps when they seemed to stop working.
So if link space is premium, and no one will bother to ever click through, what link would be the best to pin? Bandcamp? Youtube? Spotify? I'd probably just cancel my linktree account except it allows me to aggregate review links and stuff in one place.
Thx. I probably half-assed setting up links on this app. Partly because I'm feeling ambivalent about the best approach. I have my linktree pinned on Insta. I can see the stats that show that a few thousand people clicked the linktree, but only like, 6 clicked any of the links to streaming options.
@florgoth.bsky.social is a rockstar and probably the only reason I have any followers at all. :) I'm really just referring to the difficulty in being seen by those followers. I haven't gotten the warm fuzzies from this app yet.
Bravo!
I feel you. I definitely remember those days. And I applaud you for not doing the pay to play thing. I was always opposed to those practices, and my old band never did that either. But, we never made a dime playing live or touring. Every one went to paying things off.
I can't worry too much about ticket prices because I don't know if I'll ever play live again. What I'd like is to attract a small audience who genuinely gets my music. Just enough people so that I could feel a bit better about the money and energy I put into it. But I need to feel ethical about it.
Posted this comment elsewhere, but I think when people tell you that the goal is to make enough content to "show the real person" behind the music what they really mean to say is, "you should be forming parasocial relationships with your audience so that you can bleed them dry". It's all grift.

No, you're right. I'm going to make a concerted effort to use this app more to see if I can build here.
Ironically, I find hashtags seem to have no impact on the meta apps.
I was also, for a long time. But once I decided to start releasing music again I needed a place to promote, network and build community. I would just like for that to be a place that doesn't openly support conservative, fascist, nazi ideology. Lol.
I understand. I think right now there is a tonal difference. People are using for the traditional twitter experience. Where threads feels a little more community driven. I only have 100 or so followers there but I get a lot of conversation, and find more conversations I'm interested in joining.
I would love to ditch all of the meta apps and just post on bluesky but I get 0% engagement over here. I don’t even think my IRL friends ever even see any of these posts.
