Maybe Harlan helped him w/gas money.

So Justice Thomas goes down to Univ. of Texas and gives a speech at a center funded by Harlan Crow, the guy who has shoveled money to Thomas and his family--much of which Thomas failed to disclose. Thomas also gave a shout-out to Crow.
Thomas is corrupt. And he's unashamed about that.
There has been a battle within the party for decades re how much the party should do to shape the primary process in the interest of favored candidates so not that simple.
According to Cory Booker, voters on the left failing to vote for whatever candidate Democrats nominate is always the failure of voters on the left, and never the failure of Democrats or the candidates they nominate.
Not buying it.
Yes. Dems probably won't nominate pro-Israel candidate for foreseeable future. I say probably b/c we're talking about Democrats here. Always possible party puts thumb on scale for an Israel supporter who gets wiped out in a general election in which Republicans should not be elected dog-catcher.
Listened. It was well worth the time.
This is going to be a *very* annoying Democratic primary season.
I can't believe I'm saying this but let me know if you want to do a podcast that's about getting rid of the juristocracy and is suitably disrespectful of the court.
So I give them both more and less credit than you do. I suspect they're aware, but as someone who's turned against Trump she gets absolution without either contrition or any attempt to make amends.
The thing that most annoys me about Isgur is how she's been allowed to skate on the lies she told in support of the Trump migrant child kidnapping policy.
Above all, these are normal people. Not ordinary, but normal. Contrast that with the demented criminals who lead us.
Jan is not on board for limiting judicial power.
People wanna be like "oh why do law professor norms keep you from calling people out" but it seems to me that the response to the Eastman apologists in the academy has been swift and decisive.
NYC has been talking about doing this for decades. Sometimes it's good just to do it.
At a conference where a speaker just used the word "crumblesome." That word deserves to be used more. So much of our world seems increasingly crumblesome.
Not familiar w/these particular comments. Can you please direct me to them? (Did a search but haven't found).
That is a ridiculous presumption. My own father served in the Marines for years. As an enlisted man.
Not my point, at all. My point is that the reason people portray platner as working class likely has to do with more than his wardrobe.
Don’t understand your point. My point is that people who have any understanding of the modern U.S. military understand service as an *enlisted infantryman* as something typically only working class kids do.
You just made my point. Both Mueller and Kerry served as officers. Platner was an enlisted grunt. The difference cannot be overstated.
Oh I’m not.
lol sure guy I don’t know.
So when you boil it down to “people think he’s working class bc he doesn’t like to wear suits” you sound *very* elite class.
I understand your concern. But the guy did 3 combat tours in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan as an enlisted infantryman. And that is something incredibly unusual for any young person to do outside the working class.
That any rich person would have nothing better to do w/their money than throw it at already-glutted elite universities--especially to underwrite a hare-brained scheme like this--is yet another conclusive argument for sharply progressive income and wealth taxation. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...
Mamdani and Hochul team up to push tax on NYC pied-a-terres: I.e., residences valued over $5MM owned by rich people who are not full-time residents of NYC and so do not pay NYC income tax. A great idea. Rich people who use NYC as a playground should pay for the privilege.
The Underserved Confidence of JD Vance on Catholicism and American Constitutional Law Professors on Immigration: is Yale to Blame?
In this essay I will...
As a cradle Catholic, can I say how funny it is to see JD Vance, a recent convert to Catholicism, receive personal instruction from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on just war theory.
This should be embarrassing for the Very Serious Conservative Catholics who carry water for this administration.
As a woman, I offer my sympathies to the Pope who is now being told hourly by very many random men what he actually means
