I finally decided to read through Dead Mount Death Play after watching the adaption several years.

The manga, especially with the supporting side works, is such a dense narrative. It feels like a reflection on the transition between being a teen and an adult, set in a high fantasy urban fantasy.

I have seen the rumbles of potential ship wars in one manga I’m following that’s getting an adaption next week. The flavour of those ship war is different than the old wars, though, and reminds me of the strange ship wars at the end of S2 of TAD. I guess we’ll see in a few weeks.

I think BKDK is an odd point of data to reference in the context of shounen as the parent series is a perfect example of crafting a story to hit many demographics at the same time. I don’t think anything being released right now is intended to check off as many potential audiences as possible.
