Benches are microcosms of an expansive debate about who belongs in urban public spaces. When they are removed or made uninviting, we lose more than just a place to rest.

^ A thoughtful, well articulated, beautiful review of our book ‘In the Spaces Between,’ about the past 10 years of the Arts at CERN program.
The book was edited by Monica Bello, with editorial assistance of Ana Prendes and beautifully designed by @nina-cc.bsky.social

Besides, we've had the immense luck of receiving commentaries by Tim Ingold: rai.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... and George E. Marcus: rai.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... to whom we wish to extend our warmest gratitude for their time and insight.
We have benefitted from the very constructive feedback of JRAI's editorial team and peer reviewers, whose insights have allowed us to bring it to fruition.
This joint endeavour has been very long in the making: first drafted as a book proposal in 2019, it slowly grew into a positional essay, which has had many lives before its current instantiation.
Together with Francisco Martínez & Eeva Berglund, we've just published an article in the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, where we imagine an 'inviting' anthropology.

The cover of Time and the Other: How Anthropology Makes its Object (1983), only teal and black, with mostly horizontal stripes
RIP German anthropologist Johannes Fabian, who passed away last Tuesday. Fabian was most widely known as the author of "Time and the Other: How Anthropology Makes its Object" (1983), a then-radical & still-influential critique of anthropological writing, knowledge-making & fieldwork relations. RIP.

4.3.2 Knowledge does not exist—what would it be (1.4.3)? There is only know-how. In other words, there are crafts and trades. Despite all claims to the contrary, crafts hold the key to knowledge. They make it possible to return "science" to the networks from which it came (Introduction).
