The character in question also has lung and breathing issues, almost entirely caused by smoking, which manifested like this when he turned into a monster

But... he is afraid of wounds healing and not leaving a mark equally much as them leaving a scar, so he much rather reopen them again and again in hopes to never face the outcome. Bleeding out, is preferred. Self sabotage is all he can consequentially act on

The initial sketch is actually super old, and I tried to color it so many times without liking the results much (I think I over complicated it) but when I settled with more simplistic, almost picture book-like, it was all falling into place :D

He's a monster type called a 'Shadow being' was once a human but was turned into this. All shadow beings look different from each other because it's all based off their personalities, psyche and overall characteristics :>

I might try to convince her there are several stages of this form, so both are canon, haha! The current version is more humanoid, because it suits his personality and demise a bit better. He was forcefully stripped of his humanity so it reflects him clinging onto it still

Zlatomir's first Dark shift design actually had the pen nib visor too, but I removed it to a flattened face to keep him more expressive. Still! I felt like drawing this drafted design :>
