UW graduate student deported through SEA as protesters demand answers A union representing University of Washington graduate student workers says Kennedy Orwa’s student visa was rescinded without explanation.

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.

King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

What the hell? @washingtonpost.com is more than useless. They are now just shilling for death by public policy. USAID cuts kill. It's reprehensible and nauseating.

Deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure without apparent military value is a war crime.

Shouldn't be surprising since America elected a war crimes advocate, who in his first term pardoned convicted war criminals, and in his second made the public champion of those war criminals SecDef.

Our recent experience with @genetics-gsa.bsky.social was also excellent. A special shoutout to the production team, who took great pains to get the proofs how we wanted them.

“The problem is – it hasn’t worked. At least not in its current form.”

CRUK won’t fund OA going forwards

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

Why I may ‘hire’ AI instead of a graduate student “It can competently perform a lot of the work I need immediately,” this professor writes

I appreciate someone took the time to write this. I profoundly disagree with their view, but if I take the spirit of what they're saying as a good faith attempt to raise a mental issue, there's at least a conversation to be had.

Let's have it 1/🧵
