Oil is a volatile resource and resource economies constantly go boom and bust. There are countless reasons to diversify, this narrow minded focus on oil is boring. This Iran crap is the perfect example of why we need to expamd renewables.

Also incredibly water intensive. With the world's water supply getting pretty grim, I say we do our best to protect it.

The fires burning are the result of burning fossil fuels. The more carbon we pump into the atmosphere the worse that gets. There are degrees of how bad things can get so I'm not sure "climate change is locked in so let's just ride the pipeline to deepest pits of hell" is the answer.

So if this one is just now hitting capacity why the desire for more?

At the very least we should be doing a Norway style model that uses profits from oil to build a new greener society. There are countless jobs that could be transitioned to renwables. The insistence on maintaining a system burning my kids future to the ground cause it's easy is morally repulsive.
