Some are lying. Many truly believe this stuff. I had lots to people explaining to me in depth about how only printing money causes inflation when I was a CPC staffer.
Obviously that’s all untrue, but many people believe it. You don’t consider the counter info because it’s inconvenient.

We switched from referring to decades (80s fashion, 90s music) to generations because people felt saying the aughts or the teens sounded weird.
The result is everything feels frozen because we see trends through the people who embrace it not the time period it emerges.
This is great to hear. I’m going back after a few years off an I was worried it wouldn’t be effective right away.
So we cut the carbon tax which took money away from lower income people so that corporations could just add their own extra charges?
I hope all of the anti carbon tax people are happy. Gas isn’t cheaper. Food isn’t cheaper. Shareholders win, and Canadians lose.
Great job everyone.
Everyone living today has been raised to believe that everything is the economy. That the market will solve everything.
So a genuine crisis of belonging and purpose, a spiritual malaise, is being expressed as antipathy towards the economy.
The government believes, and evidence seems to back it up, that the median Canadian voter wants conservative economics but doesn’t want them to appear cruel.
I hate it and wish we could actually build a better society but all evidence is that Canadians would rather not pay for that 😞
The fact that naval warfare exists will not diminish my love of the ocean. Nor will the words "space force" diminish my love for the stars.
I have fought capitalism here on earth, and I will fight it on the moon if I have to, but by god I will not stop reaching for the stars.
When I was a CPC staffer trying to get them to accept climate change as real, Gladu would often remark that we didn’t need climate action because Canada has trees.
Her incuriosity was stunning.
This is a real head scratcher.

This is wild.
They think it’s gauche to accurately describe reality.
Because to admit it would admit fault with the system. And they loooove the system because for all its faults it puts these mediocre dudes above many of us on the hierarchy.
You used to make plans ahead of time a lot. Also calling on the phone. You would just call people and hope they answered.
We also were just bored a lot more. You kinda had to deal with it.
I strongly agree on canvassing. After running federal level campaigns in Canada and knocking 100k+ doors, I’m really not sure it does anything
But admitting a local campaign might not be able to really do anything to move the needle is not a desirable situation for people who want to get involved
We have prioritized small gains in safety way too much. I’ve seen firefighters oppose traffic calming because it would be slightly harder to move their trucks around.
Gaining 1% more safety for 50% more headaches and bureaucracy and costs isn’t a good trade.
How much do you think the difference in opinion for all of these over time is due to aging/becoming parents, and how much is about increasing cultural awareness of things like male predation?
I can't decide what I think. It may be 50/50.
Genuinely, I think they believe it’s the way things are. A fact of nature. Unyielding no matter what. To even think of improvement is to establish themselves as a modern day King Canute.
For basically the entire history of hockey, Canada has had the best goalie in the world. We don't anymore, and that is the difference.
What do we need to do to fix this? Massive subsides for goalie equipment for Quebec youth?
Because all of us were taught in school and out of school we should budget. That “good” people budget everything.
So when we don’t, we feel bad about it. So tons of people claim they do because they don’t want others to think they are bad people.
Also many people do budget. Not all but many do.
Excellent! Thank you. 😊
As a Canadian who only watches curling during the Olympics, but deeply loves Olympic curling, how should I be feeling about Canada in these Olympics?
“How can I be a better ally to trans people?”
Buy us pizza.
This isn’t a joke. I’m fully serious.
I like some of your ideas, especially the first one. This one I worry about.
I fear it would create the incentive to stall on the first question without answering and then say it’s already been asked.
The reason re-asking simple questions works is it’s obvious they aren’t being answered.
If whatever party can be more anti Trump starts swinging provincial elections, the incentives in Canadian politics are going to get wild.
Because everything they do is a strategic, selfish act they can’t imagine people actually caring about others. They assume everyone must be as selfish as they are and is just lying about concepts like empathy.
It’s is always better in politics to lean into one’s own strengths, not obsesses over areas of weakness.
I wish more political parties realized this.
Many journalists and most govt comms people simply do not know how to do their jobs without Twitter. Their jobs have been basically using it as the primary communication method for a decade and they can’t imagine figuring out a different way.
The divide between how Canadians see the U.S. and how our political/business leaders see them is wild. It’s one of the biggest divides in perspective I have ever seen. Canadians are clear eyed. Our leaders are not.
When I was a CPC staffer we brought in climate experts to speak to caucus and they would mention many different clean tech and options for emissions reduction.
The ONLY thing CPC MPs wanted to hear about was carbon capture because they saw it as a tool to not having to actually change anything.
It seems pretty clear that when people refer to “crime” what they are really speaking about is visible social disorder. Unhoused people sleeping visibly reads as “crime” more than actual crime stats that are less visible.
While removing the town of Slave Lake from the Slave Lake riding does sound dumb, rural ridings are always going to be huge. Saying it is way bigger than the Netherlands is evocative, but meaningless. How many people live there?
Land doesn't vote, people do.
