Voor zover er een afgesproken definitie bestaat (niet in het Belgisch recht alleszins), omvat die zowel de moorden die jij waarschijnlijk bedoelt (een onbekende vermoordt willekeurige vrouwen) als partnermoorden.

Als mannen bijna nooit vermoord worden door hun vrouw maar wel andersom, dan is dit toch een problematiek die bijna enkel vrouwen treft? Ceteris paribus zou hen dit niet overkomen als ze de man waren in de relatie. Dan vind ik het genderaspect van dit (gendergerelateerd) geweld redelijk belangrijk.

Of je dat "femicide" noemt of niet is een semantische discussie, maar feit blijft dat bijna alleen vrouwen hiervan het slachtoffer zijn.

Toch twee belangrijke aanknopingspunten: bij (ex-)partner geweld zijn vrouwen veel vaker de (fysiek) zwakkere persoon in de relatie en het voorwerp van bezitterige seksistische opvattingen van de man. Mannen worden daarom bijna nooit vermoord door een vrouw.
