Even Lapidot which I love reading can’t sell me essentialism. Rejecting it doesn’t dissolve responsibility, it prevents misassignment. Opposing apartheid and genocide is a human duty, not a Jewish one. Expecting Jews to respond is given due to state-conflation but to demand us to do so is dangerous.
The Israeli Embassy in Germany distributed these words to Bundestag members on March 2nd, 2026, under the title

In SRM #9, I use this as an entry point into a broader pattern: how liberal interventionist language, antisemitism policy, military cooperation, and annexation on the ground are being tied together while Germany’s Staatsräson reaches its practical limits.
The document narrows the debate to a choice between military escalation and catastrophic inaction, links Iran directly to European security, and seeks German political alignment without seeking international legitimacy.
🧵 Staatsräson Monitor Exclusive:
SRM obtained a document circulated by the Israeli Embassy to Bundestag members that frames the war on Iran not only as self-defense, but as a project of Iranian liberation.
"By conflating Jewish safety with political alignment to Israel's far-right policies and downplaying Palestinian suffering, she risks undermining the trust of European Jewish communities" .
"in practice" she had at times acted in ways closely aligned with the Netanyahu government and Europe's pro-Israel lobby.
29 European Jewish and Israeli
organizations submitted a formal complaint against
von Schnurbein. "She has overstretched her mandate,"
said Berlin-based Alon Sahar, a policy analyst on Israel-German relations and co-founder of Israelis for Peace,
one of the groups in the coalition.
Another allegation against von Schnurbein concerns
the exclusion of left-wing and non-Zionist Jewish
groups from forums organized by the European
Commission, which critics say contradicts her
mandate, and lacks accountability and transparency.
Several Commission sources confirmed to Haaretz that
von Schnurbein was involved in drafting the comission's negative response to Amnesty's report on Israeli Apartheid, and took pride in it.
Her office drafted a proposal to ban the
Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera in Europe, after it was
outlawed by Israel. After the idea sparked outrage
among other Commission officials, it was quickly
shelved and never formally introduced.
Before and after October 7, von Schnurbein has been
fostering ties with Israeli lobbying groups in Europe,
primarily with ELNET, an NGO that describes its mission as pursuing "long-term strategic partnerships" between Europe
and Israel and "empowering friends of Israel."

After sustained political attacks on UNRWA, the AfD is now extending the same suspicion framework ICRC. This is not just another budget inquiry. It applies a security logic previously used against NGOs to a core humanitarian institution protected under international humanitarian law.

Members of Bundestag were invited by NAFFO and EIPA to a briefing titled “Gaza: Genocide Allegations and the Power of Disinformation” by Professor Danny Orbach, a war historian and researcher at BESA, around his study “Debunking the Genocide Allegations: A Re-examination of the Israel-Hamas War.”
Similarly, a Christen an der Seite Israels (CSI) article presents a “fact check” of four major accusations against Israel since 7 October 2023, namely apartheid, deliberate starvation, genocide, and inflated casualty figures.
A position paper published by NAFFO titled “Addressing Current Misunderstandings About Israel” presents what it describes as a fact-based response to three recurring criticisms of Israel: allegations of genocide in Gaza, settler violence in the West Bank, and the treatment of Christians in Israel.
