And finally, 28% of teachers said they’d witnessed or heard about an antisemitic incident in their school in the past year. In classrooms with more than 20% Jewish students, a whopping 51% said they’d witnessed such an incident
Many teachers rely on materials they found online (from YouTube, resource aggregators like Teachers Pay Teachers) and materials they’ve made themselves to teach about these topics
Less than half of teachers said they’d received any professional learning on teaching these topics
Key takeaways:
Most teachers address the Holocaust and think doing so is important
Other topics related to Jewish people and history are much less prevalent.
Current events seem to drive focus: Many teachers said they taught about the Arab-Israeli conflict more than in previous years
