Probably not suspicious that Trump fired his Navy Secretary in the middle of a naval blockade.
Horrible news 😢
Oh so sad, used to listen to him at work when I lived in Sydney.
All I want is a humble castle on the Irish coast, a crackling fire, a vintage mystery novel, an emotional support raven, a raging thunderstorm, a few purring cats, endless cups of tea, and a scandalous amount of freshly-baked pastries.
Data centers have contaminated ground water in Oregon.
They've released smog into the air in Memphis.
And they've contributed to electricity bill spikes — all while receiving millions of dollars in tax breaks.
Is it any wonder why a nationwide backlash against AI data centers is brewing?
You can thank your lucky stars we don’t live in Paraguay!
I have to admit I was already aged out of watching SpongeBob SquarePants when this episode originally aired.
But my younger colleagues told me to watch this clip.
No matter who is in power, there's never enough money for all the basic social supports working-class people depend on (along with disability support: healthcare, education, aged care etc). But there's somehow ALWAYS more than enough to spend on weapons and war.
A graph showing increasing defence spending over the decade from 2026-27. Rising from just over $60 billion to close to $120 billion.
The NDIS is far from perfect. But there's something particularly inhuman about the Labor Party pushing through changes that will see 160,000 people kicked off disability support in the same week they proudly announced an increase in military spending of $53 billion over 10 years.
The Government™ has made an ad about the era we're living through, and it's surpsingly honest and informative.

Many Americans can’t find any motivation to vote for the Democratic Party in their lifetime. I literally can’t think of any significant accomplishment they’ve made since I’ve been born. They are the party of big business, empty slogans, soulless centrism and corporate welfare.
The laws ban the Palestine freedom slogans “From the River to the Sea” and “globalise the Intifada”, except in some circumstances. www.greenleft.org.au/2026/1452/ne...
Make it make sense.
What I Mean When I Say I'm Tired I don't mean I want to sleep. I mean I want to disappear for a while. To be rain on a stranger's roof. To be smoke rising from someone else's fire. I don't want to die. But I do want to rest in a way the world has never allowed me. I don't want comfort. I want quiet. I want the mercy of being unseen without being unloved.

To quote (ish) a person who's name I don't recall - 'you can't budget your way out of poverty.'.

Or they might end up there themselves

21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures ... have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful. 22. We must resist the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism. We, in America and more broadly the West, have for the past half century resisted defining national cultures in the name of inclusivity. But inclusion into what?
⚠️ Palantir released what it describes as a vision for “The Technological Republic” in which it argues AGAINST democratic and cultural pluralism and FOR militaristic supremacy enforced by a technocratic elite who produce AI weaponry.
These points stand out:
I think I want what we all want - peace, love, warmth, and an enchanted cottage that floats through the night, trading used books and black market rum with the wild folk of the wood.
Weird. But then people do coffee enemas now so…
