If there are any Democrats who are thinking of running for the presidency on 2028 on anything less than a clear agenda of widespread prosecution for this administration's corruption and fundamental structural changes to ensure it can't happen again, they should just stop right there.

a screenshot of the "New Bestsellers" list from Substack, with Andrew Tate in the #1 position
Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.
I just listened to an extended NPR interview w an education economist about 40 yrs of rising college tuition & student debt, and not a single mention that 40 yrs ago was about the time all states cut higher education budgets, privatized tuition, in order to pay for tax cuts and prisons
🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..
We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.
And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

If you're attending @ncme38.bsky.social this week, stop by the "Majestic" room on Thursday @ 1:45p to hear about our majestic new project on "Corroborative factor analysis."
Any reasonable lawyer who has read the memo knows that this is not what it requires, so Mizzou is just performing racism to satisfy racists. Also this rhetorical slip was absolutely made easier by people who conflated DEI with race/affinity spaces and I hope everyone is learning their lesson.
I hear ya man. Did my best to enact the values while I was on the conf team. Continually disappointed in the leadership decisions. Built the online and onsite approach just to see it tossed aside. Haven’t been back to POD since I left the conf team.

Private equity has been fantasizing about the capture of education for decades. This is the deepest they’ve ever gotten their tendrils into it.
A screenshot of my cover with this quote: David Perry is one of the most trusted voices on how to think, write, and work in public. He has a clear ethic about the critical importance of intellectual labor at a moment when the risks of being public have rarely been greater, and the reasons why academics must risk it have rarely been so clear." - Tressie McMillan Cottom, New York Times columnist, author of Thick: And Other Essays
My next book, a practical guide for how to write for mass media, publishes four weeks from today. I hope you'll consider ordering it now, inviting me to speak, and to tell others. Here's what @tressiemcphd.bsky.social said about my work.

Strong recommendation to teaching faculty to just say no to this stuff, even if you are AI curious/enthusiastic. This is meant to reduce faculty autonomy and capture human labor with automation. You're selling out your future self and the profession as a whole. www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-in...
SO excited for this to be out (open access)! @ljalley.bsky.social asked students what they think about when answering surveys about motivational climate. This study made a bit of a splash two AERAs ago because...1/2 @aera-motsig.bsky.social @aeradivc.bsky.social doi.org/10.1080/0022...
When FYW students told me it took them 3-5 hours to write a draft of a 750 word piece, I had them track interruptions from their phones and some said they had more than 60 notifications per hour. I let them draw their own conclusions on what to do after these observations. Only some chose silencing.
lady of sophistication @janky_jane Props to anyone who tries to be fashionable in ireland i wore a red beret once in waterford and someone called me super mario Andrew Beatty V @AndrewBeatty Replying to @janky_jane I once ordered a taxi in Belfast for a night out. The driver pulls up to my house and just says "yer not going out like that. Go back in and change, I'll turn off the metre." | swear I was wearing normal jeans and a normal jacket.
Matthew @MrWeir Replying to @janky jane I once wore a silver jacket to college, turned up late for class, said 'sorry I'm late', lecturer said, 'that's ok' then waited til I was halfway across the front of the full class before following up with 'trouble with the spaceship again was it?'. Replying to @janky _jane My sister was in France sporting a new trench coat, thought was so stylish, but went into an Irish bar and got called Inspector Gadget by the first guy that saw her 15:53 • 8/16/21 • Twitter Web App

Tired of relentless boosterism and narratives of inevitability? Worried about the thoughtless outsourcing of our universities' work and mission? We got you. 👊
I wrote about how Democratic leadership has abandoned the moral high ground on Iran, and how it has left them toothless when opposing Trump.
These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.

I tell you what, Ring figured out exactly how to weaponize white people’s empathy in service to a corporately controlled surveillance state.
