I'm manufacturing some things today and I swear they spend more money on the backing of sticker papers than the actual paper itself.
They could be making actual good points, but I'm so turned off by tech people that I don't care. They created this situation by agreeing to do the dirty work for corporations, because "WOWEEE TECHNOLOGY WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING". They could have said no to the money, but chose to pursue the field.

We saw our first little red eft of the year today. If you see one please do not pick it up! Their skin is highly porous and the salt, oils, lotion, sunblock, bug spray, etc. from your hands can make them sick. Use a leaf to move them if they must be relocated for their safety. ❤️

I would say that while his humans had only a few archetypes, his monsters, vehicles and architecture are much more diverse. And costumes! Toriyama drip is real!

His art was a constant most of my life. His monsters and vehicles are my favorite.
He may have had like 8 kinds of human, but he had a million monsters and machines.
It feels weird that any new DragonQuest creatures won't even be signed off on by him.
It wasn't like Toriyama or Tezuka didn't create new characters, nor that their designs weren't varied- they were masters at cartooning.
It's just... it's ok to have a wheelhouse. I think artists forget that.
It... kind of hurts to speak of Toriyama in past- tense, even now.
Like, Tezuka very literally invented his star system so he found focus on stories and creating new designs as needed instead of arbitrarily innovating to innovate.
He was one of the most prolific comic artists ever, and there was a reason- his system worked for him.
Today I was lamenting that I keep riffing on specific design elements/ character archetypes and then I remembered that Akira Toriyama sold us variations on the same 5 dudes and 2, maybe 3 variations of woman.
I'm not saying stagnate, but maybe it's ok to have preferences.
