black and white digital illustration on a gray background featuring the image of the moon in a vaguely Minoan style

The image of the Moon, according to the opinion of Apollonius, is the shape of a woman standing upon two bulls; the head of one is next to the tail of the other.

I should mention that the first clown Eucharist I ever witnessed was accompanied by an impressively long arrangement of Bach’s “jesu joy of man’s desiring.”

“A clown Eucharist.” What, you’ve never seen a clown tear a baguette in half after miming the crucifixion? (Jesus forgive me for the things I have seen done in your name, and not just this one.)

Hymn for the Korybantes Some time ago after some online text-conversations with my colleague Sartrix, I realized that the assignment of Scorpio III to Kairos, the god of opportunity, was probably wrong... and it was probably the Korybantes or Kouretes or Dioscuri — the name given to the masculine spirits of wild and dangerous places, in much the same way that the nymphs are the feminine spirits of wild but 'relatively safe' places.

Dodekatemoria 48: Gemini of Cancer This is a poem in this series of 144 poems that I'm writing based on the dodeks, or twelfth parts, of the Zodiac signs. As far as I know, everybody else calls them dodekatemoria, but that's a very complicated word to say, so I just call them dodeks. This series is for Patreon supporters only. wood: first frame saw I made my first wooden frame saw. It's the worst saw I've ever made, and the best saw I've ever made. The first problem is that the tenons aren't tight enough in the mortises, so the saw comes apart too easily. (it's just as easy to say that the mortises are too loose for the tenons I cut. When I start cutting with the saw, the first few back-n-forths are fine, but then the tenons start to pop out of the mortices (since they're not glued).

I started asking “how to advise on the search?” After my 4th frustrating lost object chart was right-but-useless because I *don't know the house* — telling the querent how to direct their own search of a place they know well, seems to work better.

Ask an older woman to help you find it, especially if she is nominally subordinate to you at work but more experienced and skilled at her job than you are.

If you think you lost it in someone else’s house or residence, it is likely to be either someone from a long way away; or someone who is a student.

The ring may be in a part of the house where you recently injured yourself or found the water to be too hot — or where you took a phone call from A friend about some very hot gossip (hot tea).

It’s not in a pipe, but paying attention to baseboard heaters is useful as you rise through the house.

If I start with that question “what should I do to find it?” Is to start at the house “water exit” where the sewer pipe goes out to the street or septic sustem, and search upward to the highest bathroom in the house.

With due respect, wrong question: the right question is “what should I do to find it?”

There are so many good writers doing good work at Substack but, for the love of Pete, there's no turning this tide. It will only get worse. They will not course-correct back to being the destination for indie journalism. Get out while you can.

Good speech all around. Particularly poignant on the role inequality plays in the rise of far-right populism.

It’s so frustrating. A lot of celebrity “interviews” are just influencers desperate to “hang out” with famous people they idolize. They rarely even ask questions, to say nothing of questions pertinent to anyone but themselves or stans. It’s a real loss for culture.

I don't care how awesome you are, if you write on Substack, I cannot, in good conscience, click through to read, or share your work anywhere. Find a different platform.

@heartastrology.bsky.social delivered a great talk for @opaastro.bsky.social’s Sunday afternoon program today, on the Imum Coeli. My great takeaway is a fine contrast to the place of contentment— Dorje also uses it to signify the “monster under the bed”. Brilliant work, sir— loved it!

A reminder: The Attorney General of the United States should be the people's lawyer, not the president's personal attorney. The Department of Justice should act to protect the public, not the occupant of the Oval Office and his political allies.
