Oh my god I did not know any of that ๐
And then I just entirely drop the persona the second i'm not at work. ๐
๐๐๐๐
Which will be very ironic as the sheriff of a county that is almost entirely a city ๐๐
Mmmm chewing tobacco is a non starter for me but I can eat sunflower seeds and spit them at criminals like a superpower. ๐
I just randomly got a text from a friend that said they voted for me for county sheriff so to be prepared if I get elected. I am not running for county sheriff but if elected will make sure no one in the county forgets the face of their father.
I beleive my actual package is some variety of Hornet but immediately any time there's a wipe I grind bounty work until I can buy a Starlancer MAX. Its exactly the sort of multi crew supporting cargo ship I can imagine running with my friends
I have been thinking about getting back into it but I also an simultaneously super into a game of Satisfactory with a friend and trying to replay though MW5 Mercs because I misclicked while trying to manage saves and DELETED my entire campaign file that had finished Shadow of Kerensky. ๐ฅฒ
Me too! At this point if its a fun ride through space fighter simulation/combat I'll be over the moon.
This feels like getting mad because you pawned an item, didn't pay back the pawn shop, and then got mad when they sold the item on. You don't own that shit no more, brother.
High drama this does not seem. If you return a product and hope that at some point in the future you can buy it back even if its no longer available regularly...like...you have to know that's dicey. If you actually wanted it and knew it was not normally purchaseable why would you have returned it?
I keep seeing rumblings about Star Citizen drama and since I periodically get back into that game since "immersive multiplayer space sim" is kind of my holy grail I just googled to see what's going on.
They...disabled a buyback system for the single player standalone game Squadron 42? Is this all?
This is a really long thread but if you like #ttrpg character creation or just enjoy #traveller you may enjoy riding along as I random roll up a spacefarer named Mira and her backstory.
But, after over a decade of naval life, Mira decides she's not interested in fighting wars anymore. Her skills are well suited to the life of a Traveller and so she musters out of the Navy and presumably will sign on with some other player characters at the age of 34.
What a ride!
She sees action early and learns quickly the price of war as comrades are wounded or killed around her. She survives, and her career trajectory carries her forward and upward for twelve years. The mentorship of a commanding officer aids her greatly and she becomes Commander and xo of a ship.
Her expected career in jump drive manufacturing or research and development is derailed when war breaks out and she finds herself drafted into the Navy. She tests highly enough to score an Ensign rank and a posting to Engineering and Gunnery aboard a cruiser.
So, lets sum up!
Mira Horne, a child of immigrants to an affluent homeworld. Despite limitations on her upward mobility her brilliant mind gets her admitted to a prestigious academy attended by society's upper crust.
From there, she sails into university and pursues courses in engineering.
A screenshot of Mira's character sheet
There's a bonus skill package all characters select, but since that's done as a play group I'll leave it for now. She needs a last name, so we'll call her Mira Horne. Because her SOC is now 12 she qualifies as a Baron level noble.
The final stats are below for intrepid Baron Commander Mira Horne.
The remaining rolls get her:
Two Ship Shares (partial ownership of a ship)
A weapon (her trusty Naval Cutlass)
INT +1 up to 13
Membership in the Traveller's Aid Society
This is the most successful Traveller character I have ever rolled and its for a bluesky thread ๐

Mira had 3 successful terms in the Navy, so she gets 3 rolls on the benefits table plus a bonus 2 due to having stayed in the same career for 3 terms. One of these gets a +1 due to her Special Assignment during term 2.
With the +1 on her first roll she gets a 7! +2 SOC, up to 12.
(At this point I realized I'd shorted her 1 point of Mechanics due to misunderstanding a rule so I adjusted it up to 2)
Mira is 34 now and going any further will start incurring Aging penalties every term so I think this is probanly a good place for her to muster out of the Navy and become a PC.
Her event this term sees her commanding officer take an interest in her career, which will give a massive +4 on her advancement roll this term! This sees her get a 9 and gain a promotion to Commander, Tactics (Naval) 1, and Pilot 1.
Mira is now 30, but her career is going so well I want to see where this goes. (She could stop at any point to actually be used in a game of Traveller).
She's still in the Navy, gains Engineering 2 and passes her Survival roll.
A screenshot of Mira's current stats
For her next term, she'll stay in the Navy, gaining up to Leadership 2, passing the Survival roll, and getting for her event a Special Assignment which will get her a bonus on one of her Benefit rolls when she leaves this career. She gets promoted again to Lieutenant and gets Electronics 1.
A promotion this term will require an EDU roll of 6+, for which she rolls a 6+1 and gets a 7, earning a promotion to Sublieutenant for her battle experience. This earns her the bonus skill Leadership 1 and a bonus skill roll, which nets her an increase up to Mechanics 1 as well.
What a busy term!
Mira must now pass a 6+ INT roll to successfully complete her 4 year term in this career. She gets a 7+2 for INT = 9 so she does survive the term.
For her event this term: 6
Her vessel takes part in a notable engagement and she gains a skill! I selected Gunner 1 from the list.
She gets to choose an assignment so given her Engineering skill we'll choose Engineer/Gunner - she serves as a specialist technician aboard a starship and starts out as an Ensign due to getting the commission roll. This gives her the bonus skill Melee (Blade) 1 so maybe she knows how to use a saber?
A screenshot of Mira's current skills
As this is Mira's first career (education doesn't count for this) she gains all the Service Skills for the Navy career at level 0 (in Traveller, Skills at level 0 just negates the penalty for using it untrained)
Pilot 0
Vacc Suit 0
Athletics 0 (prior obtained)
Gunner 0
Mechanic 0
Gun Combat 0
So boom, Mira's career plans are upended by the outbreak of war, and while her connections cannot stop her being compulsorily inducted into the Navy, but she is able to parlay her level of education into entering the Navy as an officer rather than an enlisted crewman.
