I'm looking fwd to reading it when I have a mo and dipping into the vol as a whole when it's out. Reckon it'll be a useful teaching resource having so many C19 British disability history sources in one place. Congrats on its publication (looks like it's released tomorrow- hope you get to celebrate!)

Smashing! I notice that @claireljones.bsky.social's intro to her soon-to-be released #DisHist source collection is now available online as a 'preview pdf' via the publisher's site.
Definitely going on my must-read list!

It is surprising how so few of the many histories of eugenics centre the voices of disabled people. Uncovering these perspectives contradicts all previous narratives of eugenics in interwar Britain
YAY! Brilliant to see Nina Geerdink & Victoria Nyst's article about a deaf woman in the #EarlyModern #LowCountries out in BMGN!
This is really SUCH cool research, making you think about what it is we study when we study #DisabilityHistory -- plus introducing an intriguing figure to me at least.
Been dipping into this thought-provoking chap by Dijkstra, @singingarchives.bsky.social & Hofman in Hung & @willemijnruberg.bsky.social's edited vol recently: www.google.fi/books/editio...
Lots to chew over & well worth a read, #DisHist, #EmoHist & @hexhistory.bsky.social folks!
A hand holds two-sided flyers in front of a bookshelf. One side of the flyers has the information about Diamond Open Access, the other has the graphics of the journal.
SJDR continues to foster greater global exchange of critical ideas as we are now Diamond Open Access. This means authors pay no fees.
We're happy to discuss paper ideas and editorial process, more information here: sjdr.se.

Time to grab a coffee & get going!
Off to the #ELBOW 'Between Marginal & Mainstream' conference this morning @helsinki.fi.
Lots of fab-sounding presentations on the prog, starting with @laurenkassell.bsky.social's keynote on 'Bedside Medicine in #EarlyModern England'. Can't wait to get started! #HistSci

A couple of months ago, I was a guest on the Global Health Histories podcast series, talking about the history of medical care provision for disabled ex-servicemen in Britain after the First World War. The episode is now available and can be found here: ahc.leeds.ac.uk/directories1...

If ancient Rome's your thing, #DisHist folks, there's still time to submit a proposal to this workshop @helsinki.fi.
Nice to notice some #DisHist on the programme this week at the IHR.
Online participation possible too!
As other replies indicate, dogs are def the best covered animals in the lit on this topic. Other disability historians who have written some smashing pieces on them, inc. 1) @disabilitystor1.bsky.social - e.g. this paywall-free offering @nursingclio.bsky.social: nursingclio.org/2018/11/15/t... ...

Will surely be of interest to @beckierutherford.bsky.social + other #DisHist folks working on activism.
Excited to see the new volume Early Modern Bodies edited by Sarah Toulalan (2026, but already out)! Also happy that my book History of the Body is mentioned in the Introduction as "an
excellent survey of the field published in 2019".

Fantastic news, Paul. Congratulations! What a way to start the festive season. Hope you get to celebrate in style. Here's something to help get you in the mood: youtu.be/3GwjfUFyY6M?... (as if you'd need it!) Such a great achievement. Well done!
As a disabled historian I am so pleased that History UK (co-funded with @royalhistsoc.org) have published their report on disabled student & staff experiences of #highereducation & history. It makes for a difficult reading at times, but none of it is surprising. www.history-uk.ac.uk/projects/his...
Thought you might be given your work on emotions & smashing-sounding @victorianhand.bsky.social project. As a disability historian, I honed in straight on Gagné's ch. Didn't realise @jbhist.bsky.social had contributed something too. I def need to explore the vol more. Thanks for the heads up!
Don't know if you're aware of this fab chapter (which includes consideration of Götz von Berlichingen's iron hand), but perhaps it's of interest:
