apropos of the Palantir manifesto circulating, here's a thread reviewing the book it's derived from
This is why I can't get mad at any amount of hate directed at AI, even tho part of me is like "so you're mad at... matrix multiplication and statistics...?"
Because it's stuff like this that people are reacting to - along with widespread intellectual property theft, accelerating income inequality
the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?

seriously looking into those screen less trackers (amazfit's software seems wonky, whoop is too expensive, we'll see what the new Fitbit screenless looks like in reviews)

people might not believe it but I was writing about AI loooooong before the current boom
part of the reason I wrote the book is that I'd been covering the topic for more than a decade and perceived an acute need for a sober take on what it can -- and cannot -- do!

Just sobbed hardest I have since my mom died in 2020.
She missed these trials by a few months.
One of most ruthless cancers. Hard to fathom that maybe she'd still be here.
I feel such a hole inside.
In case you're wondering if we should fund mRNA research instead of another stupid war ... yes.
Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.
about that return to the office
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.
