“Technology firms behind artificial intelligence–based note-taking software — marketed to therapists as a time-saving administrative tool — have quietly included provisions in their terms and conditions that allow patients’ therapy records to be sold and manipulated to train other AI applications.”

I've now moved to @jdp23.thenexus.today as my primary account. I'm keeping this account around as a backup, at least for the time being.

Read my latest commentary on Big Tech Authoritarianism, which discusses how Big Tech actively constructs authoritarian spaces – both within their organisational structures and across broader socio-political contexts.

Something that I think we need to be clear about is that internet scholars (critical and otherwise) have made this clear for at least two decades and the rest of the academy (and the public) responded with a collective "what happens online isn't real," so forgive me if I'm like "water is ALSO wet."

Seems like there's a lot of chatter among folks looking to migrate off of bsky.social as a PDS, and out to other options.

Friendly reminder for white people like me, that Blacksky is for Black folks. There's a related PDS for people that aren't Black too, but Blacksky isn't for us white people.

The WSJ carelessly spread anti-trans misinformation The Wall Street Journal’s fuckup while covering Charlie Kirk’s killing needs more than an editor’s note.

🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ Trans people are "a vulnerable minority group that has been widely demonized. Any good journalistic practice would involve nailing down accuracy to avoid making things worse."

Like I said ...

Think twice before you amplify thinly-source stories. Even if you're expressing skepticism, you don't want to give them more oxygen. One alternative: take a screenshot and draw a couple of big red question marks over it. Or, just don't amplify it!

So I’ve been banned from Reddit for three days by automated moderation for making a racist post…

…paraphrasing Kirk’s final words.

No, Chicago is not using salt trucks to block ICE, despite viral claims The city told NBC News in a statement that the salt trucks were there “to support public safety efforts related to a planned protest and the Taste of Chicago.”

Lots of accounts sharing misinformation for clicks + shares. This doesn't help anyone.

"Salt trucks, routinely used in Chicago winters to combat ice on roadways, were not deployed this weekend to deter ICE, the city said, despite claims made on social media videos." www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

I'm guessing this is news to most of you but I have a book coming out. :) I and three co-authors (all of whom are HCI researchers with law-adjacent degrees) wrote Human-Computer Interaction and U.S. Law, which will be out from Cambridge University Press in December. www.cambridge.org/core/books/h...

Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?

Just setting up my blacksky-comra.de ...

I'll be slowly shifting my presence to this account. I tend not to migrate accounts; instead, I prefer to recreate my network based on my interests today, not two years ago - and leave the baggage of old posts behind

Also when I was in high school I was a country music DJ. That or McDonald's were the only two options for summer jobs.

Accessibility in the ATmosphere?

The current state of accessibiilty on Bluesky leaves a lot of room for improvement. So, let's start making things better!

thenexusofprivacy.leaflet.pub/3lxxyg36k5s2t

What accessibility problems have you encountered on Bluesky or other ATmosphere software – bugs, missing documentation or functionality, whatever? 🧵

mysqld randomly dies, whenever somebody points it out to me it seems like i'm in the middle of something else and say "oh yeah I should look at that, i'll just restart for now and get back to it soon" and then i don't.

but i really should look at it. i'll get back to it soon.

Let's see how this works ...

Yeah, I feel differently about whether Bluesky is decentralized (i can see arguments both ways, it basically depends on what aspects people focus on and how you define "Bluesky") as oppose to whether the ATmosphere is decentralized (clearly yes, Blacksky's existence is proof)
