AI is the most disruptive change maybe ever, certainly in my lifetime. AI, social media & addictive algorithms disrupt learning and harm kids' well-being. We have to act—to put up guardrails & boost engagement. The student-teacher relationship must be central. My column:

Glad to see the Target Boycott is trending. We’re urging our members, & our communities to shop local, not Target for Back to School. Target has not supported Minnesota, the place they got their start, so we are shopping elsewhere

This is a big deal.. this is the first election in Fla after its Republican legislature did its Republican Gov’s bidding to pass its anti union legislation. The voters voted for a union guy!!
All you need to know how bad this is for working people is that Rupert Murdoch’s editorial board loves the anti-union bill in Florida.
YES! ▶️ "Working-class Americans need a tax cut now." Excited to see labor leaders taking on bold policy ideas to put money into working people's pockets. @rweingarten.bsky.social 💯! Check out Randi's new column ⤵️

Our members are not only workers & consumers, they're long-term Target investors. Our urgent request to Target's new CEO Michael Fiddelke is that he call for ICE to leave Minnesota now, warning that the company’s silence jeopardizes its brand & our members’ investments. www.aft.org/news/aft-pre...
This administration's statements belie what we can see with our own eyes. The federal govt's actions today—both the killing and the cover-up—are a disgrace. Since the president will not, we must call on Congress to act to create accountability 4 this federal malfeasance.

In Minneapolis today.. more later
Today we are all Minnesota. The AFT is standing proudly in support and solidarity here in Minneapolis against ICE’s assault on people’s constitutional, civil and human rights.

Union members in Minneapolis–St. Paul issued a call to show solidarity on Jan. 23 after a brutal ICE operation led to the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis substitute teacher, and the targeting of immigrant communities. Whether in 1776 or 2026, protest against authoritarian tactics is patriotic. It is what the founders did, and it is what is required of us. Democracy can’t defend itself. Read more in my new column. www.aft.org/column/march...
In the days after Renee Good’s death, there were more than 1,200 nonviolent gatherings across the country. Americans are rising up in defense of their neighbors and their democracy. More in my new column: www.aft.org/column/march...
Lies, smears and attempts to manipulate public perception are tactics used by authoritarian regimes, not democracies. Trump is testing the limits of presidential power, and we as a nation are at an inflection point. We must stand up. www.aft.org/column/march...
It is part of American culture to help each other in times of need. But ICE has treated community members who bear witness with whistles, cameras and their mere presence as enemies. More: www.aft.org/column/march...
Americans, including those who voted for Trump, want leaders to make our lives better, not to undermine our constitutional rights or make us less safe. Read more in my latest column here: www.aft.org/column/march...
The US has never fully lived up to our nation’s founding ideals, but our democracy has set us apart from rule by monarchs, despots & dictators. Today, our rights & freedoms are under attack. We, the people, must act. www.aft.org/column/march...
This is a huge victory for workers and communities alike. NIOSH is integral to protecting health and safety, and preventing employee injuries, illnesses, and deaths at workplaces nationwide. apnews.com/article/cdc-...
This administration's lies are stoking division and turmoil. This is a moral moment to come together as Americans—not pit us against each other.

Love this! ✊🏼🇺🇸
I love the subway… and I ❤️ NY… (how else should you get around NYC after a protest calling out ICE after the murder of Renee Good)
ICE’s abuses of power dishonor the BRAVE law enforcement officers who serve their communities openly (no masks) and with accountability across 🇺🇸. This is not the U.S. Customs my dad served. #RIPReneeGood
We were joined by Rep. Maxine Dexter and AFLCIO state fed president Graham Trainor.
We know what we saw.
Our members and leaders from across the region - healthcare workers, bus drivers, public employees, school staff and more - came together to mourn, to honor and call for change.
This is a moment of profound sadness and grief. Our government is supposed to make us safer, to protect us. But instead after a horrific shooting, the President and his administration are defending it, telling us not to believe what we see with our own eyes.
Around the country there were thousands of vigils this weekend, demanding ICE stay out our our communities and our schools. We held one in Portland to honor Renee Good & the dozens of others shot and injured by fed agents over the past few months including 2 people shot in Portant
This is a reckless, heinous act of violence against an American citizen. The officer must be held accountable. DHS must stop lying about the horror that was caught on video. ICE must leave our communities immediately.
