I think he's super interesting, so I'm surprised a lot of times people tend to not look at his relationships with others in depth. I do think they're all very distinct, but I feel like... Mikey's and Donnie's roles in the group are the most distinct. Both Leo and Raph are protectors, but
Mikey is always the fandom favorite and while I can see why, my autistic self has always related to Donnie more, esp since I feel he's very distinct from his brothers and there's a sense that he doesn't quite "fit in" with his bros because of his interests/the scientific language he uses at times.

yes indeed he is! the truth is the absence of any one turtle would leave behind a deep scar, but if there's one turtle that really unifies them, I def feel it's Donnie, and you can tell how much his brothers dote on him and value him 🥺 esp after he's cured after becoming gamera Don.
just like how I personally feel Leo works well with Mikey because it's Leo that, in theory, could potentially harness Mikey's raw talent. Mikey is skilled but prone to distraction. Leo is laser-focused. He helps him execute tbh. I do love their dynamics tbh, they're an interesting bunch.
a note to add re. Raph and Donnie - they are both very opposite to each other, just as he is with Leo. the problem is that Leonardo and Raphael both want to exert a certain level of control. Donnie is a follower, but Raphael also trusts his smarts. together, they both work really well together,

and you can tell that shit is SO SO rare bc his bros were like ".... bro are u ok") but no. he's just peace and science. he's quiet and sort of disappears into the background, but it's often times where these kind of quiet and steady characters leave the biggest impact imo
are super detrimental, just things that make you go "damn, bro. brow a backbone." bc he is just. he honestly just goes with the flow a bit too much? like idk man you're allowed to disagree and give your opinion and yell at someone. (there's like ONE instance where he has one SMALL outburst in 2k3
He's also kind of Mikey's babysitter sometimes and honestly sometimes he does keep Mikey in check but most of the time........ he goes with his shenanigans. idk personally I'm just more inclined to say Donnie is really slept on. He does have inherent flaws for sure, but I don't think any of them
