Watching the MillerCoors sign come down to make way for the @illinoisresearch.bsky.social AI center could feel like a metaphor. But as we move from "Beer to Bots," we can't forget Chicago's real currency isn’t data; it’s trust, empathy, and human relationships.

About to step onstage at #TEDxNormal to talk about reclaiming our humanity in the age of the algorithm, then it’s off to Chicago for the official launch of The AI Handbook for Sales Professionals.
Final rehearsal for TEDxNormal today!
I'm telling about the time an algorithmic error sent me 120 pounds of steak rub - and giving some of it away to whoever has the best "AI got it wrong" stories of their own.
Check out the details at AISalesFail.com
The advance copies of my book arrived yesterday, and Peneleope dove right in, giving it her "two paws up" seal of approval.
I hope you'll like it, too. The book officially launches on Tuesday and will be available wherever you buy great books.

I spent months learning about 158 AI tools that big companies are buying for their sales teams - and the results they're hoping for

Now I'm showing the founders at 1871 how they can chase similar goals on a startup's budget.

Managers used to empower sellers; sellers leveraged SDRs. Today, we have AI.
But AI will never replace human trust or perspective.

In 2019, the Town of Normal’s top Facebook post was a photoshopped image of turkeys that took hours to create. Today, I generated a video of the same scene in seconds using AI.
On April 11, I’m at TEDxNormal to discuss algorithmic manipulation and reclaiming our humanity.

Is the world just going to be AI bots talking to AI Bots?
Kerry Guard and I chat about this on the Back on T-R-A-C-K show, where I also share how AI misunderstood a joke and wound up sending my all sorts of food samples as a result.

The cover for The AI Handbook for sales professionals. A black background with an elecric blue hand glowing with networks hold a tablet that is surfacing emails, gears, seaches, and reports. The title: The AI Handbook for Sales Professionals; A Practical, Tactical gude for sellers, managers, and Executives to Reclaim their Time and Expand Their Humanity
Creative designers are mind readers. Shanda @ Catalyst Ink took my vague ideas for my new book cover and nailed the visual.
It shows how AI helps sellers by handling data manipulation so they can be more human, and echos my first book too..
Launch: April 14. Join the waitlist at jdmillerphd.com.
I just saw the launch materials for the iPhone17e, and was shocked to see the time set at 9:41!
Since writing this article for @uxcollective.bsky.social , I've been used to seeing it at 10:09.
The date shown IS April Fool's Day, so maybe that's part of it :)

Who thought it'd be a good idea to give this guy a TED talk?
On April 11th, I'll tell the story about how an algorithm mistook my small Chicago balcony for a major food influencer - sending 120 pounds of steak rub at my door.
We can reclaim our humanity in the age of the algorithm.
Starting your week at sales kickoff?
The potential costs are high - for the hosts and the guests.

Still buzzing from Rio!
My niece's graduation trip lived up to every expectation.
The best gift I gave both of us was sending my manuscript to my editor before takeoff so I could be truly present.
Keeping that focus as the countdown to the April release begins!

Authority Magaine asked me about the "Five Traits You Need to be a Highly Effective Board Member."

What do YOU think is important for Board members?
AI is great at pattern identification. That might look like empathy, but it's not.
That's why I shared with James Hounslow that Sales, Recruiters, and others in empathetic jobs don't need to worry about being replaced by AI Bots.

I use sales velocity calculations while working on annual plans with various companies. By examining the number of deals, conversions, average deal size, and time to close, we can identify areas for improvement in the coming year.

"Trust me, we're going to close it all in the last week of the month."
Seasonality is real in some businesses. But - as Kyle and I talk about on the Revenue Leadershp Podcast - everyone will worry less if you've got the data to back up your claims.

This week, I'm reminded of this story of an executive who didn't think LGBT people belong in the C-suite.
Fortunately, everyone else disagreed.
But as we approach National Coming Out Day this weekend, I remember that coming out sometimes has costs.
I found it worth doing, anyway.
Your Board member is likely there because they did something really great in a previous job.
And they want to add value for you.
But that doesn't mean that what worked for them in that context is going to be helpful for you in yours.
