And if you don't get canvassed, why not send your city councillor an email to remind them that lots of people care about these issues. #exeterlovescycling
and then there's pavement parking enforcement...these are things the city council can influence or has made commitments on. Elections are an excellent time to hold politicians to account.
TFW you've got a council candidate on your doorstep and can't think what to say? We've got you. Things you could talk to Exeter City Council candidates about include:
🚗20mph for Exeter
🚸Safe School streets
🚲Bike parking and bike hangars
Apologies. They are there a quick Google will find the link
Main changes 🚲🧑🦽🛴🚶
-Countess Wear pedestrian bridge ▶️an accessible 🚲🚶 bridge, divert Exe Estuary Trail
- Link the bridge via wider shared path
- Raise the height of the road over the canal, divert canalside🚲🚶path underneath the road
There'll be an underpass at the swing bridges & an over bridge near Countess wear roundabout.
We'll talk with DCC to ensure all are usable by disabled cyclists.
Doubtless it will take yrs to deliver. So take extra care at the dangerous 4 lane Glasshouse La crossing.

A hand cyclist using a 3 wheeled recumbent tricycle tries to press a button for a road crossing, her front wheel has to stick out into the dual carriageway.
A high pedestrian bridge with step access only over a 4 lane road, lettering on the Bridge states " Welcome to Exeter".
Two canal bridges raised up, labelled Fig 1.1 Bridge Rd canal bridges with swing bridge in foreground and bascule bridge in background
Disabled cyclists/cargo bikers have difficuties at Bridge Rd Exeter swing bridge crossings & there's been numerous collisions at the Glasshouse La. crossing, so it's good to hear there's funding for changes.
We might note that these are only being funded because they reduce wait time for drivers!

This consultation closes tomorrow - end of Friday 10th April.
Do your bit and speak up for safer streets, plus nudge friends & family in the right direction.
E-bikes are a game changer for society
They get people to cycle and out of their cara when they previously would‘t have
Also they get people doing exercise that they wouldn’t done have otherwise.
For those living, working or visiting Exeter, this is a consultation that needs your support.
Option 1 maintains a safe route for pedestrians & cyclists, while introducing a bus gate & emergency services access.
@exetercycling.bsky.social
Just sayin
Interesting chat with #Exeter RD&E NHS staff who #cycle in
Most hadn't heard of the plans & were horrified at returning traffic to a strategic cycle route
Pls respond asap to Dryden Rd consulation!
I recommend Option 1

A young child cycles on green painted cycle lane, next to them the wheels of a heavy good vehicle are veering over the painted line. Picture is credited to Tom Flood, with modfications for UK roads.
Have you replied to the Dryden Rd consultation? Act now (we recommend Option 1)
We need spaces where people feel safe to cycle without battling through traffic.
Safe active independent travel for school children = more time free for busy parents.

A thread on why consultations should never be treated as referendums
The number of cyclists injured in collisions has dropped since the Dryden Road filter went in 6 years ago.
Predicted peak hour traffic will push car numbers over the threshold for safe cycling under Option 3. Devon County Council are proposing to spend £1million on making a strategic cycle route less safe that it is now 🤦♀️
Painted lines won't keep cyclists safe. James explains why in this video, and why a bus gate on Dryden Road (Option 1) is the one we support.
James sets out the implications for residents' parking - spoiler, on-street parking will go.
In this video James explains how Option 3 (remove the filter and paint cycle lanes) will lead to more traffic in the area.
There's a clickable map of Exeter's strategic cycle network on our website if you'd like to see where we're talking about : it's the currently safe and pleasant E9 at Dryden Road, well used by hundreds of people to make safe cycle journeys every day. exetercyclingcampaign.org.uk/campaigns/lc...
We're fighting to stop a filter being removed from one of Exeter's key strategic cycle routes, the E9 at Dryden Road. Removing the filter would allow nearly 4,000 cars a day back onto the route, with just paint for protection. Our Chair James explains the issues in these short videos👇🎥.
